I've come to visit the crabby guys of Maryland.
My brother is in town here in IL but lives in Maryland. I want to give him a 1911 but he is concerned about the transfer. I told him to take it to a dealer and do the 4473 once he is back in Maryland. He is under the impression that I have to send it from FFL to FFL. I've figured I could save money by not shipping and then he fill out the 4473. Any thoughts on this. Thanks from one crappy gun state to another crappy gun state.

He's right - in ANY state. Transfer has to go through a FFL and he can't bring it into the FFL for transfer because it would mean he has taken illegal possession of the handgun prior to the transfer.
And thanks to O'Mally and the other cocksuckers that live & breath in Annapolis you're brother will first need to get a permit that allows him to buy/transfer a handgun. IIRC $50 for the permit and another $50 or so for the fingerprinting. If you want to avoid the shipping fees - the next time you visit bring the handgun with you and go with him to the store or MSP barracks to do the transfer (but he'll still need that permit to purchase ahead of time). |
