what is the minimum age to posses a pistol? Hypothetically at 18, living on your own could you have one in your night stand or home. I'm not talking about conceal to carry or transporting it, but to have one for self defense of the home, inside your property at all times.

18 to possess, 21 to purchase from an FFL, unless things have changed lately.

There should be nothing against you using a pistol on your own private property to defend yourself at age 18.

You are fine in your own home.

Cannot carry or purchase from FFL until you are 21, and get your PTC.

Of course, ironically, you have to be 21 to purchase ammo at the stores

Besides just in the home, 18+ can possess a handgun legally in other circumstances. From the current MN Hunting Regulations Book pg. 22

Persons age 18 or older may carry a handgun to hunt or target shoot.
Persons under age 18 who meet firearms safety requirements (page 35) may
carry handguns for hunting under the supervision of a parent or guardian.

There is no restriction on possessing a pistol. You must be 18 to OWN and 21 to BUY a pistol.
