WHOM TO CONTACT WHEN:
4. The left-most column above shows where the bill is currently. The key to the abbreviations is at the end
of this Alert.
If a bill has nothing next to it, just contact your Senator for an SB or your House Rep for an HB.
If a bill has a committee (eg. HAg), contact that committee AND your Rep or Sen. (Ex. If it says
HAg, it is in the House Agriculture Committee, so you’d contact that committee plus your House
Rep).
If a bill is on the floor of a chamber, contact your Rep or Sen depending on which chamber. (Ex. If it
says SFlr, that’s the Senate floor, so contact your Senator.)
If a bill says Gov, do nothing, because it will probably pass via override even if he vetoes it.
Remember that bills go through both chambers to pass, so you may be calling your Senator or a
Senate committee about a House bill as things progress, or vice versa.
EXTRA CREDIT:
5. Go to https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/findyourlegistor/findyourlegistor.html (or search KY find my
legislator and choose the first option). Find your legislator and it will show their phone and email.
6. Call your legislator's direct phone number and leave the above message and a brief reason. Be polite
and succinct.
7. Email your legislator and leave the above message but put the key points in the SUBJECT line for best
impact. Keep it brief and friendly. (Ex: Subject: Co-Sponsor HB 26. Taxpayers shouldn’t be funding
lobbyists.)
