Don't they spell check bro?
HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – Tribal groups in Connecticut will no longer be able to re-apply for federal recognition. Governor Malloy, along with 2
U.s Senators, claim this ruling to be a victory for the state.
Malloy says, “These changes ensure that previously denied tribal groups will not get another shot at the apple.”
Senator Blumenthal has been arguing cases like these for years saying, “Tribal groups that fail to meet criteria of
continuting existence, political authority, internal organization should not get federal recognition.”
The new ruling also included that it does not
guarnette recongition for
tirbes that are located on reservations.
Allowing tribal groups to receive federal recongiction does not just raise concern for casino explanions, but for prive porety and soveriengt concern. This is due to tribal lands being exempt from states laws.
Senator Chris Murphy touches on this topic saying, “When tribes go through process, they put title claims on thousands of property, freezing thousands of houses and businesses from sales for years.”
Comments from the Eastern Pequot
Trinal Nation, and the two
toher tribes
invloved in the ruling, are being sought out.
