My father has all my guns at his house in New York, and has since my daughter could walk. My wife knows this and is using whatever she can, in order gain an upper hand in this case, so please be warned that this isn't the first attempt she'll make."

And that's all the judge needed to know, regardless if it was true. But that was in 1999 and at that time, I wasn't fighting for custody. THAT came later. But that's a story better left for another thread. Or sitting on a deck drinking beer for a few days, to properly explain the insanity of my ex-wife.

What is this safe location you speak of.

If you believe that if your guns are moved out of your home, and once out of your home they cannot be taken by the police, you need to brush up on laws.

Cant firearms be transferred(on a form) to someone else(family member) if they have the proper permit(handguns, now long guns, etc) If they are about to be/or have been taken away from the owner, instead of having them sit in a locker at the police station?

You can transfer them before you get raided.

AWs are a whole nother issue. You will not be getting those back if you transfer them to a FFL.

After they are taken by the police they can be transferred only after a judge orders.

Maybe group8 will authorize some OT for conndcj and let him shed some light on this.

Between sbhaven, conndcj, and JAD we should be able to get some information. And i also have personal experience about PO and confiscation of weapons. And the weapons were not in the place where the other person lived at time of PO issue.

There has to be more to this. It sounds like a divorce/custody case got really nasty. Don't know who to believe based on the two links in the OP post. If you believe the state then this guy brought it upon himself by making threats to a judge. If you believe the guy version of events then he got hosed, and some of it may be due to the actions by one of the people he emailed who then may have passed that email onto the judge (or law enforcement) which was then used to claim he made threats.

The state seizure law (Sec. 29-38c) does have a provision that would allow the firearms to be transferred "to any person eligible to possess such firearm or firearms and ammunition" or "such person’s legal representative". The problem comes with assault weapons and large capacity magazines due to the fact that those have very specific limitations on who can take possession of them. Don't think those can be returned to anyone but the person who registered/declared them to the state. Unknown what would happen if someone moved their guns out of state prior to being hit with the seizure statute. If one could move their guns out of state for the time being that would be one way to avoid possible seizure rather than transferring them to someone else prior to seizure or after the guns have been seized.

You can't transfer to a friend anymore. FFL or turn in to PD.

I've wondered about the Trust and think this is a good backup plan for high dollar owners...if it holds up.

Your "registered" firearms that show up on the database will be on the list the PD will have.

Depending on the offense, you will either receive a letter from licensing or will have a cop take them if the "event" happened where the guns are. There are a few twists and turns that bring forth a few variables (risk warrants, out of State storage or sales, etc.).

Any way you slice it, a locked safe is the best way to prevent issues at all levels.

Per the seizure statute link posted above the statute indicates per subdivision (e) you can transfer under the circumstances indicated a firearm or firearms and ammunition "to any person eligible to possess such firearm or firearms and ammunition". Is that statute in error?

I was referring to on site arrest & inital protecive order...they can't go from your hand to a friend.
I've only done a few risk warrants and they were "after the fact". Guns already seized, paperwork to follow (suicidal types).

Just to play Devil's advocate, the right wing news media embellishes things for their cause every bit as much as the socialist liberal media does.  I've written letters, picketed and testified in Hartford, accused Malloy and every other gun banners around as a bunch of boobs in every forum imaginable, and even helped get a Democrat loyalist kicked out and replaced by a Republican state rep in the last election. PLUS I worked get Malloy defeated in my town so don't blame me for his being reelected.   Oh, and I recorded a speech by gun grabber Don Williams and posted it on YouTube specifically to prove how much of a liar he is and so far I have five hundred hits, so word is definitely getting around.  Not to mention, all my toys are registered so the state knows what is in my armory.

Yet, I don't have a single "the cops came after me" story...namely because I treat women like human beings, I don't do drugs, and I don't go around threatening to kill people who disagree with me.  See the pattern?

Excellent.  If no one here or anywhere else can understand the reaction, I don't know what to say to you.  A lot of you say "don't bring The Man into your life".  Well, threatening a JUDGE is the surest way for that to happen.  What did anyone think was going to happen?  I mean talk about a FAIL in situational awareness.
