Damn! Missed that Had a great time, however. The band was really great and the fair food was diverse and very good, actually. Prices surprised us as being very reasonable, too. Crowd was busy but manageable and I loved the old engines and the poultry and bovine barns. We'll go next year for sure. Spent an hour driving there, two hours there, and an hour home. We also discovered a garlic farm off of Rt 20 and stocked up on German White garlic as well as a handful of other veggies including some really super leaks. My wife is scouring recipes for leaks as I type. Rome View Quote They are going to have a Garlic Festival there also in a couple of weeks |

Yeah, that's what the farmer said. It was a really interesting farm stand to be sure. If you've never been to a Garlic Festival, you should go and try one if you like garlic. We've been to the one on the West Coast and also the one in Saugerties NY along the Hudson River. Having one in CT would be so much closer. You can usually find many dozens of types of garlic available for purchase. We buy a few different ones depending on the purpose it's going to be used for. Typically, however, German White are sold around here because they are more useful in a commercial setting but also because they're not too big but not too small. Their flavor is very predictable, too.
BTW, I would like to correct my spelling from "leaks" to "leeks". Dummy Rome |

Heading for the Hopkinton State Fair in Contoocook NH. Spending the weekend on the lake in NH.

I've been to the garlic festival several times. Kind of small, lots of food. Oct 11-12. Bethlehem Fair Grounds.
Mike |
|
Woodstock fair wasnt to good this year. The heat was too much for me for it to be enjoyable. Food wasn't all that good either. Everything seemed to be over cooked or not cooked enough. oh well. Always next year
|
|
The Hopkinton State fair was great. 2x + the size of the Goshen Fair. Plenty of barns for the large variety of livestock. Several craft and vendor barns also. Tons of food. All kinds of events and demonstrations, from horseback rIding to tractor pulls. There was this tractor pull with lawn mower type tractors. Everything from almost stock to heavily modified. There was one modified tractor, more like a dragster, with dual engines, covered in fake fur with a hogs head mounted on the front, and it was driven by a 12 year old girl. Daddy must be proud. Some real crazy redneck shit there.
Its good to breath free air. I'll be returning to the PRC later today. Mike |

There's no reason not to carry if you want as there's no "checking" at the gate; at least not last year.
I'll be there probably close to 10:30, will be wearing one of the new camo caps with my last name embroidered on the back, shorts, blue sneakers. If you see me, tap me on the shoulder and say hi! Rome |

Next to the goats.....appropriate place.
We went and poked around for 3 hours. Very enjoyable, food was good and not overpriced. People were friendly and animals were neat as was the dock dogs, tractor racing, oxen pull, and tractor pull. Saw some of all of that. Also brought my "Wild Bill" mug for refills and bought another one for my wife. Good soda, especially the sugar free. Got home a bit ago and will go back next year for sure.
