HB1936 is in jeopardy of being killed.  We know that OSBI is lobbying hard against this bill that would make it easier and less expensive for Oklahomans to obtain a handgun license.  While you are busy working to pay their salary, the OSBI Director and his staff are busy lobbying against your rights!  Perhaps Director Florence and his staff need to be reminded that OSBI's job is to execute and enforce the laws the Legislature passes.  It is NOT their place to tell the Legislature what to do; in a representative form of government, that is the people's place.

We ask you to call OSBI headquarters at 405-848-6724 and ask for Director Stan Florence.  Ask Director Florence why he is spending time on the taxpayers' dime to lobby against the rights of the taxpayer.  You may also use OSBI's webform to send an email (in the "Regarding" field, select "SDA Concerns").

Here is what HB1936 would do:

Eliminate the requirement to take your application to the Sheriff, which for many means taking time away from work.
Eliminate the requirement for the applicant to be fingerprinted.
Replace the current time consuming and costly background checks with a simple phone call to run a NICS check (NICS is the phone call licensed firearms dealers make when they sell a firearm).
Lower the cost of the license for Oklahoma residents from $125 ($25 to the Sheriff and $100 to OSBI) to just $25.
Allows OSBI to market and sell the Oklahoma license to residents of other states for $50 (this is a lower price than surrounding states charge for their licenses so some non-residents would choose to purchase an Oklahoma license).
This bill does nothing to change any training requirement or procedures.  It only reforms the processing procedures of the license application to make it less cumbersome and expensive.
