Then she says, "That's OK, Mug, I'll go and beat the rush." Martins in Culpeper looks like it was picked over from a zombie apocalypse a week ago. |

It's looking like snow to rain to snow here in Norfolk. We won't have anything stick. I hope.

Based on last night's commute, and this morning's recovery efforts...
This weekend's storm is going to need a new name. Perhaps SnowMyGodWTFBBQMegaPocalypse. |

Yesterday's snow happened during rush hour, that is always worst case for driving impact.

Just got back from a Safeway in Fairfax, NO crowds or lines, plenty of food. Probably be jammed after noon and when people get off work, though. What a difference from yesterday that I heard about and saw on TV.

Wife and I went to a super Target last night near Fredericksburg to get some school supplies for the kids.
There we are, cart full of paper and binders and two bottles of wine and long lines of folks stocked up like it's the end of the world coming. How about buy some stuff and stash it prior to the bad times... |

Manassas Gun Show scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled.

Walmart in Warrenton was cleaned out of eggs and nearly out of milk last night.

That little bit of snow last night was crazy slick. Tapped the brakes from 35mph and it took eight car lengths to stop. ABS bitching about it the whole way.

Sittin in the IHOP for nightshift dinner, 7-11 for some beer. Then off to hotel and get paid to drink...lol
Rinse and repeat tomorrow. |

Snowblower passed it's check in.
Plenty of beer now. Makings for some great meals including short ribs, jambalaya, and chicken and dumplin's. Plenty of gas in the cans, and both cars full. Plenty of propane in the event we lose power - will still be able to cook. Have some firewood. Lots of snack food. Making one last trip to eat lunch out before the festivities begin. -shooter |

Started here in Ashburn at 1230 Got plenty of red meat to sear. Bourbon stock is good too. Bring it on.

I saw some Army LMTVs with plows (plus some other plow trucks) sitting in a high school parking lot in Loudoun on my way home today. I guess that's the local NG unit? Never seen them out before.

Well, we're in for the duration. Leaving the horses out until 4pm for some exercise and then they can come in until it's
over. Looks like about 2" on the ground in Lovettsville as of 3pm. Southern States delivered 600 gallons of diesel for the house generator and the trailer mounted Miller welder, so there will be no shortage of electric power. Really short on wood. I busted up both knees in a run in with one of the mares and just did not have what it took to deal with that. I can cut some if things go really bad. The VDOT contract plow guy is now on station and is passing the house every 30-45 minutes. And most important, there's a 5 lb beef roast in the oven that should be done around 5pm. We're in pretty good shape but I am worried about the widow who has the farm across the way. She's got three elderly horses to look after and shes still recovering from heart surgery. If we get 20-30 inches, there's no way I'll be able to get my Kubota RTV-900 up her 1/4 mile driveway to check on her - let alone help her with the horses. Not sure my Kubota tractor will make it either. I'm going to call some of the other neighbors this evening and see if I can line up a bigger tractor (or a plow). Anyhow, Sitrep from Lovettsville ends. Good luck to everyone. |

Update - just heard Loudoun County Fire dispatch Chaplin Unit 615 to a cardiac arrest
down near Leesburg. Looks like things are turning bad rather early. |

Update - just heard Loudoun County Fire dispatch Chaplin Unit 615 to a cardiac arrest down near Leesburg. Looks like things are turning bad rather early. View Quote The chaplain was sent to a call in Sterling earlier. 50y/o guy, sounded like he didn't make it. Additional responders were told to return, but the chaplain could continue. Looking like LCSO should've held on to the couple of Humvees they had acquired. My bro-in-law is expected to drive from Aldie to the station in Ashburn to get an SUV unit. When his shift is over he has to return it there and then hope he can get home. Sunday too. At this point he's not sure how he's getting there tomorrow morning. |
|
Might have been the same call - I missed the initial dispatch, but the address sounded like one SE of Leesburg.
The problem with responders reporting for their shifts SAFELY really needs to be addressed. We had a young Loudoun County Fire Dept member killed a few years back. He was in route to his station and hit some black ice just down the road from our farm. The guys from station 10 in Luckets were horrified when they arrived on scene. |
|
The guy across the street from me works for town public works. Either him or his buddy just came by and plowed the short stretch in front of his to the dead end and the other short stretch to the town road. Helps to allow the cop neighbor to get out too.
HOA contractor just came through a few minutes ago too. And now via VSP I'm hearing about a plow truck on fire somewhere in NOVA. Earlier I heard Div 2 getting a call from a guy in a Maserati, south bound on I-81 that wanted a tow truck to come get him. He just didn't want to drive anymore. |

One bottle of wine down. Went to Costco and got two pounds of King Crab legs for $40 for dinner
I am going to survive this storm via wine and beer |

We are hovering around 5 inches here in western Prince William.
Ran the generator...all good. Fire wood, split and stacked with additional under a covered deck. Tractor(sub compact) wedged in the garage, saves plowing an extra 30 yards up hill. Full fuel tanks and extra in cans. Many freezers full of venison, duck, pheasant and chukar. Lots of water. I am looking forward to this snow storm. If anyone knows a first responder in my area that might need a ride to make a shift please drop me a line. HAVE FUN |

14" in my driveway right now, and it's still coming down hard. Just got back from Denny's for dinner.
Left the house at 6:30pm. There was 8" on the gage. Surprisingly our road was plowed a few hours beforehand, so there was about 3" on it. We're usually one of the last to get plowed...maybe a neighbor got bored...? So in the ~3hrs I was gone, we got another 6" Calling for another 3-6" tomorrow... |
|
About 8" on the ground right now here in Leesburg. Just ventured out to go pick up some ice cream from the wife and to see what the neighborhood looks like. The road out of my neighborhood was plowed by the town earlier today and had about 4-5" on it. US 15 had 2-3" on it and I saw lots of plows out.

Don't forget to clear out a few feet around your local fire hydrants and a path to the street when your digging out.
(For those of us that aren't lucky enough to live in rural Va where fire hydrants are an endangered species) |
