I wonder if that will stay?   Extended deadline for bill was 5/19 which is this week.  Last time it passed date, it was removed from agenda and had to go back to assigments for reassigning to committee.

Fighting the gun dealer licensing bill in the House is taking up a lot of resources.   They also have the AWB up in Senate committee next week too.

5/9 update

Bill extension expired on 5/5 and it was reassigned to assignments.  As a result it was removed from todays committee hearing.

The bill has since been reassigned to committee, but it is not on any scheduled committee meeting agenda yet.

It has also received a new extension date of 5/19

As at the previous meeting the bill was also postponed at the 5/2 committee hearing.  It is now rescheduled for 5/9/17.  While possible it won't be called or it will be postponed again, witness slips are open for the new hearing.

Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Illinois Police Training Act. Provides the annual training of police chiefs must include at least one course on the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act, the Firearm Concealed Carry Act, and firearms investigations. Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act. Permits the State Police to notify the FBI if a person on the Terrorist Watchlist applies for a FOID card. Requires the State Police to provide notice and reason for the disqualification of a firearm purchase or a FOID card revocation to all law enforcement agencies with jurisdiction to assist with the seizure of the person's FOID card. Adds as grounds to deny an application for or to revoke or seize the person's FOID card that the person is charged with making a terrorist threat or soliciting or providing material support for terrorism. Makes other changes. Amends the Firearm Concealed Carry Act. Provides that a person may not carry a concealed handgun equipped with a silencer. Amends the Wildlife Code. Removes the prohibition on using a silencer to mute the sound resulting from firing a gun. Amends the Criminal Code of 2012. Provides that the offense of unlawful use of weapons includes knowingly: using, or possessing with the intent to use, a silencer on a handgun, except at a shooting range; or possessing any silencer for firearms, other than handguns, not in compliance with the National Firearms Act. Provides that the offense of unlawful sale or delivery of firearms includes knowingly transferring a silencer to a person not authorized to possess the silencer under federal law. Effective immediately.

I'd like to say I'm optimistic, but this state has crushed my spirit.

There is something else listed as well - is it an amendment? If yes, is it evil?

If you mean the other bill on the witness slip link, SB1761, that is not related to suppressors and is just also  on the agenda for the criminal law committee the same day as the suppressor bill.

I could have posted separate links for suppressor slip tracking and for slip filing, but just did the agenda link so you could select what you wanted to do for the bill from there...or I was just being a little lazy.

Slips are currently running 74 for and 307 against.

The opponents have a  huge lead on this, and I`ll  bet they`re all in Cook County.  We`ll never get this if we don`t do better.

I noticed something when looking at the witness slips the opponents are mostly women.  Why?   And who got to them?   Also Patricia Ernst of Ernst Financial is listed there and Ernst Financial is in Massachusetts.

I guess even the gun people must not want this. They are crushing us with slips, doesn't anyone care about this!

I noticed that too.   Perhaps sexist of me, but I suspect that the gun violence prevention groups, Bloomberg, everytown, responsible americans or whatever else all these anti-gun groups are called are largely made up of females.

I think they have learned from the past when getting crushed from the pro 2A folks and now are using social media to get their message out with explicit instructions on how to post witness slips.  I expect we will see some tweets to the IL senate accounts too.

I have wondered before how many non Illini file a slip and if those are looked at.  A lot of these groups coming in to push their agenda here are not Illinois based although I suppose the same could be said of the NRA.

So this witness slip shit is so broken. You should need to supply an IL DL or State ID to prove you live in state.

I put my witness slip in with "An actual IL Resident unlike some of the OPPONENTS"

There is a woman on there named Christine Canfield who  put in 4 witness slips.  if this is true someone needs to file a complaint for this and the out of state ones, if I knew how I would.  The opponents have over 400 slips while we have under 100.

Committee is made up of 7 Dem and 4 Rep with one of the Dems being bill sponsor so theres a chance it could still get out of committee.

Kind of strange there were no NRA/ISRA alerts for this bill like when it first came up earlier in the year.

If you order the list by name you will find many multiples on the opponent side. For example, Alma Kubota has 14 entries. I sure hope someone cuts out duplicates before they look at these.

Since yesterday we gained we are almost 300 while the opposition is over 900

Committee met, discussed a different bill for 3 minutes.  Unsure if SB0050 or other agenda bills were even discussed.   Perhaps will find out more later.

How much bearing do the witness slips have on moving things forward?

Fair question and I think tough to answer.   When the anti2A  groups have a winning margin it can get  reported as being the will of the people, yet when the Pro2A has an overwheming margin, like by 1000+, it just gets read into the official record.  Hopefully, large Pro2A numbers would indicate to the legislators that they are not working unobserved and people are following bills and how they are voting on them, perhaps giving them something to consider if they want to be reelected.

For the most part this.  

I don't think anyone thinks that some senator is sitting there going "holy shit, I guess I should reverse my antigun stance based on those hundreds of witness slips."

But one thing it does do is let the congress critters know that this is actually something people are paying attention to.

I'd say this about covers it.  It conveys the general popularity or non-popularity of the given bill.  When passing CC, our supportive legislators were emboldened by the thousands of supportive slips filed.

We're still getting crushed.

Doing better than before though. The anti groups have been more coordinated in getting their message out..   One post I saw from an anti group today  on SB0050..."There were well over 1000 opponents slips for the April vote, around 400 proponents. Need to get the numbers up for Tuesday."...

One potential problem for numbers is witness slip fatigue when after doing the slips for a hearing, the bill doesnt get called and you have to start over again.  Being on agenda is not a guarantee the bill will get discussed.

The bill didnt get called at previous hearings and I see 15 items already on the schedule for tomorrows late afternoon hearing.

I dont think the bill was called today and may have been postponed again.   Won't know for sure until can check the bill status tomorrow.  

The hearing audio link did not come up until after they were already started.   SB0050 did not get mentioned from that point and it sounded like the bill sponsor was not present so thats why I suspect it was delayed again.

Edit: As suspected, the bill status shows as postponed yesterday.   Not sure what this does to the bill as their committee extension was to the 5th and I dont see the committee meeting again this week.
