ELDERLY SULTAN WOMAN SHOOTS AND KILLS HOME INVADER WHO WAS STABBING HER HUSBAND

(SULTAN, WA.) -- In a normally quiet, peaceful and rural area of east Snohomish County the almost unthinkable happened Thursday night; a home invasion that ended in death.

The event was the stuff of big city crime stories that small town folks here in the east county area watch on TV but rarely experience.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's office says an 80-year old Sultan woman shot and killed a 25-year old man who had broken into her home and was in the process of stabbing her 75-year old husband.

Sheriff's office spokeswoman Shari Ireton told the first news crew on scene, from KCPQ-TV in Seattle that the woman's husband was stabbed multiple times in the abdomen and was airlifted to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center were he was listed in stable condition.

The second news person on scene, a photographer for the Sky Valley Chronicle arrived shortly after 10 pm to find Woods Lake Road closed off between the Old Owen Road - a "back way" thoroughfare between Monroe and Sultan - and Florence Acres Road while sheriff's investigators conducted their investigation. It was closed off for several hours.

Ireton told news people waiting at the junction of Old Owen Road and Woods Lake Road that the woman called 911 at about 8:30 pm from her home in the 13700 block of Woods Lake Road and said she had shot an intruder after he broke into her residence and stabbed her husband.

The suspect, identified last night only as a 25-year-old man from Gold Bar, a town just east a few miles from the woman's home, died at the scene.

The woman was uninjured as was the couple's 45-year-old son who was also in the home at the time of the incident break in.

A report Thursday night by KOMO-TV in Seattle said the woman told police the intruder broke into the home through a back door and moments later she heard a noise and walked into another room to investigate.

There she saw a stranger standing over her husband holding a large knife. The report said the woman then ran to a bedroom, retrieved a gun, came back out and shot at the intruder several times.

Ireton said last evening, "At this time, detectives do not believe the suspect was known to the residents of the home and that this was an attempted home burglary."

Identification of the suspect, as well as cause and manner of death, will be confirmed by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner.

I never like to hear of a death, but good for her, she was prepared and she saved her family.  When you need protection, the police are always at least a few minutes away, get a gun, learn how to use it and prepare yourself for the time you may need to use it.

This was about half a mile from my house.  Doesn't really suprise me.    So many addicts and thiefs in this area now its getting out of hand.   At least she got one of the fuckers

Many of you have heard about the horrible break in and attack that happened just outside of Sultan. 75 year old John Moles was very badly injured in the attack. He is still in Harborview waiting for the doctors to decide if he is strong enough for the extensive surgery that he needs. His 80 year old wife, Barbara, defended herself and her family. She very likely, in my opinion, saved the lives of others who may have been the next victims of this rampage. She could use our support during this time. She is going back and forth to Seattle every day to see John. Expenses associated with what they are going through are starting to add up. Their daughter, Stacy, has set up an account for them at Coastal Community Bank in Sultan or visit the Go Fund Me site under “John & Barb Moles Support Fund” if you’d like to help them out. www.gofundme.com/224st89w Thanks, Debbie
