Normally wouldnt pass this on, but today an old white dude in his late 70s tried to buy a bodyguard 380. Former air force dentist, last name of Smith. Dunno what he did, but after he got denied he said "yea I kinda figured I'd get denied, guess I'll have to go buy a gun privately". This is around the pittsburgh area, so keep an eye put for this dude.

Doesn't matter what he did. Sounds like he knows he is prohibited.

He knew, or at least strongly suspected. I imagine it was something from a long time ago, but it doesnt matter. We gave him a challege sheet and told him to fill it out and submit it. Oh well.

Dishonorable Discharge from the AF?  I think they are banned from owning guns like all other convicted felons.

Common name, could have had a sibling or relative with a record.  He might have figured it would happen because of that.

If the guy is indeed a prohibited person , he probably won't be prosecuted just like most that fail PICS.

Yet a lot of politicians in Harrisburg scream and cry for more gun control when the laws we have are not enforced consistently.

It's been 4 days and we still havent heard anything. Josh said it'll take a few months before the guy receives a summons. Shows how good those laws are huh?

The law is fine. The enforcement is the issue.
They could have had a detective  there in 2 minutes

speaking of prosecuting gun crimes...

In the Daily Slime I read this week, a guy was busted drunk driving and had chased a delivery driver down, African American guy just making a delivery.  He got out, threatened the delivery guy with a shotgun while calling him a derogatory name.  I will attach the article as this summary sucks.Click for the article

Guy's lawyer pleas it down to 1 year and ordered to stay away from the delivery guy:  3rd DUI, fleeing and eluding the police, and terroristic threats.
Charges dropped:  simple and aggravated assault, stalking, ethnic intimidation, harassment, and weapons offense were dropped.

We don't need new gun laws.  Just need prosecutors to enforce them.  Lawyers are always wanting to plea it out, gun charge is always the big one that carries the hard hitting penalties.  Its usually the first to get thrown out.

I live outside Chester and Philly.  When I read these articles the constant theme is dropping the gun charge.  From what I figure, they drop the gun charge to get the perp to take the deal on the other stuff.

I know in the last few years they have really stepped up their game with regards to going after those that are prohibited and try to buy a gun.  Maybe in the past they haven't but the last few years have been different.

If folks that flunk PICS are actually being prosecuted now, it's news to me.

It's a big joke when somebody's buddy wins a gun at a fire hall gun bash & fails it, knowing he was prohibited in the first place but who cares because "all they can do is say no".

I hope you're right. Chumps like that should be prosecuted.
