Depends on you style and budget.  You want 3 acres, a condo or city life?

What area do you work in? Someone decided two lanes was enough for most of the highways, driving against rush hour is a big plus.

Price on land also comes way down once you go west and get out of range of NYC/NJ commuters.  Towns just north of Allentown IMO are much nicer than the Poconos, don't have as many imported NY problems, less traffic, and a good value.   Take a look at the area around Coplay/Slatington/Washington Township (Lehigh County).

Milford is pretty out there, and not in the gas region so land is still reasonable.  I-84 traffic is not usually an issue.  East Stroudsburg is, in my humble opinion, not desirable. "Poconos" is a pretty large region - some good areas and some total pits.  You really need to narrow that down.  I have sone friends In the Lehighton area, seems nice.  A/B/E - not in the city propers!  Some nice spots north of the cities.  To where would you be commuting for work?

i am near scranton and go through the 84/33/22 area often.  stay away from east stroudsburg.  milford is very far away from everything.  i like parts of easton and bethlehem but would advise against allentown.  there are wonderful rural areas just outside the boarder of easton that would make you feel like you are an hour out into the country.

You couldn't pay me to live in most of those areas, the ones I didn't strike out I'm not familiar with.. I'd recommend staying out of Monroe county altogether

I would check out
Upper Mt Bethal
Bangor
East Bangor
Portland
Pen Argyl

You'll be close enough to i80 in cause you're going to continue to work in NY without all the garbage from NYC that flock to the poconos on the weekends
