I just moved to PA recently (Bucks County) and went today to get my Carry Permit. What a surprise. I have lived in 7 states in the past 15 years and gotten my CCW in 6 of those states. Out of TX, GA, UT, CO, & WI this state was the easiest, fastest, and least painful to get a permit. Despite the fact the internet says they have up to 64 days to issue you the permit, I just handed them one form, $20 and the LEO handed me my permit in about 25 minutes.
Texas was the worst (you would think the opposite) as you had to take a class, take a shooting proficiency test, pay almost $200.00 and wait almost 6 months. That was 15 years ago so maybe they have lightened up a bit. MadDog |

It takes me 60+ days in Delaware county just to get a renewal, despite having the permit for 20+ years !

That sucks................are there different rules for different counties?

25 minutes? They must have been busy. Here in York co it was only taking 10-15 minutes.
Now check out the carry restrictions and you'll see how much better PA is compared to most states. The only off limit places are court houses and they, by law have to provide you a lockbox. You can carry in bars, churches and everywhere even if posted. No duty to inform the police. Here is a good video with some great info. |

Hell, I think it took me longer to fill out the form than it did for them to do the background check and issue me the permit.
I have heard stories of it taking almost an hour to get your permit, but that's because the line was so long. |

Our Sheriff sets up at local gunshows, camera and computer/printer. It takes about 10 minutes for a new permit and less to renew.

Lancaster Co is also fast. 15 minutes or less depending on how busy. Welcome to PA.

25 minutes??? I guess a lot of things could have changed, but the Sheriff in Butler county 5 years ago when I got mine was really pro 2nd amendment if I recall correctly. Mine took about a week. I have to renew mine this November, we'll see how long it takes. There's also a new Sheriff.

I think I have to renew this year too. I'm not looking forward to it. The process is quick and easy, but Butler's new LTCF cards are more like just laminated paper instead of the real cards we've gotten in the past. |

I don't think they actually contact references here though. They contacted my references when I first applied in Butler a long time ago. In fact that held me up a bit, because I provided a number that I didn't know was out of date for one of my references. Once that was corrected, they called them, and I got my LTCF. |

I'm not so sure about state/local government buildings or libraries. Would you mind posting the statute(s) that cover these locations? As far as I know, the following are off limits for concealed/open carry: Court Facilities Grounds and buildings of Elementary and Secondary schools Certain Department of State buildings Places off-limits by Federal Law or regulation Casinos Detention facilities, correctional institutes, or mental hospitals from: http://forum.pafoa.org/concealed-open-carry-121/7582-read-first-where-you-can-cannot-carry-weapons-state-pennsylvania.html |
