"JJ, the King of beepers"

Oh god I had forgotten that. You bastard.

"HAY I'M JAYJAY DA KEENG OF BEEPAHS"!

That wasn't until 1994/1995.

Not really the "old Phoenix".

What is really sad is the damn Audio Express commercials.  How many friggen decades do we have to listen to the "ho-ho-ho-HOME of the $1 install."

It was in response to azeyecap's post above mine.  FUCK that was an annoying ad.

The "Audio Excess" ads are pretty damn annoying as well.

KZZP? KSTM?

How about KRIZ w/Steve Martin and KRUX with Bob Shannon and Phil Motta?

Anyone remember Rancid Yakbutter's version of the song "Jungle Fever"?

"Hey little girl, over here in the oleanders. You wanna Baby Ruth?"

Remember the KRIZ balls?
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l260/my65pan/KRIZ20Ball.jpg

They were fluorescent green with the letters KRIZ, and they sent people out to look for those on peoples cars and give them prizes.

I was pretty young when I put one on my mom's car and one day we were driving down the road and a car behind us started yelling "Hey, you have a KRIZ ball, pull over!" My mom had no idea what was happening, so I tried to explain it and told her to pull over. The people just drove by laughing at us, it was a joke.

I also remember when KNIX was called KTUF/KNIX...

How about:
1. Baseline road had only a single Shell station that you tried to make it to if you had car truble between Tucson and PHX
2. You had to go down Baseline to avoid construction on the new Black Canyon Freeway.
3. KOY was it for all over Southern AZ radio.
4. Gerard High School.
5. The first Marie Callanders Restaurant.
6. The model airplane store in the Central shopping center at Central and Camelback.

That would be Webster's Hobby Shop.

7. Phoenix Indian School High School.
8. Cheese & Stuff at Central and Camelback.

Ate there many a time in highschool.
9. The new Del Webb building.
10. The Playboy Club.

I grew up in Los Angeles (San Fernando Valley).  Except for the geographically specific items (Bell Rd, Metro Center, etc.) that list of memories could have described Southern California pretty accurately.

Small world...

I only go back to 1984.

My uncle had a 1958 J35 Bonanza we flew from Deer Valley out east over "some silly fountain they're building in the middle of the desert."

Later...

I remember seeing the Gin Blossoms at Long Wongs.

Going shooting up off of Pima Rd. by Pinnacle Peak Rd.

I'll bump this with:

Anyone remember J.D. Musil's nightclub at Scottsdale and Curry?

My dad always told me about the good ole' days watching Waylon play there as the house band circa 64-65.

I think it was later named Whisky River.

I went there in late 64 and saw him for about 20 minutes.  I picked up a hot to trot blonde and played her for a couple of hours.  At the time I thought that was more important than seeing Waylon.

Waylon also played a lot at his own club,,, Mr Luckys.
