Dick and Susan Walters are once again donating a table at their show so our 4-H Shooting Sports club can beg for money again this year. I can't tell you how much we appreciate this. Our archery project has gone from 6 kids three years ago to 20 this year. This year we have the largest membership the club has ever had.
Because of the generosity of the Walters family and the shooting community, we've been able to continue to supply each member everything they need to participate without any additional expense. That means, in our county, a first year member only needs to pay 6 bucks (project book) to participate. Ohio State University Extension waives the $25 membership dues for first year 4-Hers.
We've been able to buy shooting mats to extend our shooting season, ammo through ATK's/Federal Premium Ammunition's youth ammo program, two new rifles, six Genisis bows, archery targets, eye and ear protection, cleaning supplies and paying for match entrance fees.
Usually, we set up at the Niles show but since it's been cancelled we are heading to Cuyahoga Co. We were worried we would have a hard time getting families to make the drive since it's about twice as far as the Niles show. That wasn't the case. We're not too sure what to expect, but getting kids out of their comfort zone is part of the "youth development" we strive for in 4-H. We will be in the building on the east end of the grounds on the left side. Stop by and say HI and ask our kids about their project/s.
