So I joined the M1 Garand Collector's Association, and have my CHL. I signed up to have my info from M1GCA submitted directly to the CMP.

What do I need to bring to the store in Port Clinton to purchase a Garand?

Is there paperwork I can fill out in advance for an in-store purchase? Copies I can make before getting there?

I've looked on their website for information about the in-store purchasing but all I can find is info for mail-order and the store hours.

I've been to the store to browse, but have not made my own purchase before.

Thanks.

GCA card
CCW card
Passport or other certificate that shows you're a citizen of the united States.

The paperwork you do at the store is the same you do online really.

Curious as to how this works as well.
What grade rifle are you getting?

Will Social Security/Birth Certificate work?

Do I need to or can I do any in advance?

I'll see how far my dollars will take me once I get there.

Birth certificate should be fine.

For how short the paperwork is, I probably wouldn't do it in advanced. I'd wait to get there then do it there as you might pick up different ammo or a different grade rifle, etc.

Just got all my ducks in a row to do this as well. Heard they are getting in a small batch of carbines.

As far as Garands go you may as well mail order. Garand shelves have been bare for the last year with the exception of a few scattered Field Grades and M1D'S and M1C's

I sent the paperwork in on Friday to order mine via the mail.

I could probably get up there on the 4th in an excuse to go to my Toledo office. But I'm the only one executive at the Youngstown office this week and next lol.

The North store really is hit or miss. Some days they gave a lot other days it is empty. Mail order is the best way. Or go around the National Matches. Stock is usually good then.

I was planning on making a trip up to the north store from Columbus on Thursday to try and get one of the carbines.

Do I need to have a form notarized to bring with me, or is that only for mail orders?  And is there anything else I should know before going?

They have a Notary there, you can join a Club there if you are not a member. You will need to meet all the other qualifications.

Thanks

I have all the other stuff in order, I just joined the GCA today and selected the option to forward my info to CMP.

Hopefully the info will be sent before Thursday, but if not I suppose I will just join another club there if I find anything to buy.

Being a noob to this, why all the steps needed to buy one? Shouldn't it be like any other Gunstore transaction in Ohio?

The paperwork you're doing its basically all the information that's on a 4473.

The only things that are different are:

- needing to be a part of a club. (Makes sense to me.)

- need to show US nationality. Has to be more then drivers license any more as having a drivers license doesn't mean you're a US citizen any more.

- proof of marksmanship at some point in time. (It is the Civilian Marksmanship Program... )

I happen to carry a passport card as going into Canada is part of my job. And I have a CCW.. So the only odd ball thing to me is the club, which is easy with the GCA.

Since they do most of their volume via Mail, its easier to stick with one standard. Last time I checked, a gun store can't deliver to your house lol.

Update: They're apparently sold out.

We'll see if I get one.  My paperwork will be in tomorrow.

See above for correct # received...

See Below what getting there at 2am gets you...

I really wasn't planning on going last night, or at all for a carbine. I was planning ahead to go get a  Garand for my birthday last month, but decided at about midnight I should give it a shot. I was # 33 with 30 available, and somehow I was able to get the last one available.

What did the Garand selection look like?  I might swing by the South Store next month if a trip to NS isn't worth it.

No carbines left off the shelf, only way right now is auction. Those are going extremely high.

Ball park $800 after tax for a service grade M1 Garand.

$700 for a rack grade M1 garand.

$1000+ and up for anything else.

Depends on how shot out the barrel is.

My service grade was +0 / +2 and it shoots great.

The rack grades I saw last year when I went up for the national match, were +3 / +5 or worse. Which... could get fun.

Flip side, some people have gotten rack grades with +2 / +2, which would shoot fine.
