Scenario:
Got a friend who has a relative in Cali. Said relative bought an Colt handgun 40 years ago from a private party before the libs took over.
Weapon has been in storage for almost 20 years.
Wants to give the handgun to my friend.
Will he get in trouble going to a FFL to ship it since there is no paperwork and he does not have a handgun permit?

Unimportant to the issues at hand, unless there is some falsehood in it.

Wants to give the handgun to my friend.

As long as the transfer is done in compliance with your State, Federal and local laws, which includes going thru an FFL holder, you should be good to go.

There is no such thing as a "permit" to own a handgun, at least, not here in California.

Shipping INTO CA is problematic, but OUT isn't an issue. Just comply with Federal law (ship to an FFL) and you're GTG.
