The wife has a work event this Saturday in Newport that begins early in the morning with an employee only meeting/training followed by a mandatory spouses meet n' greet in the evening. Problem is it's a nearly 2 hour commute for us and there will be a ~8 hour window where I will be left to my own devices before our room is available to check into. I could always drive home, but then that means I'll be on the road nearly 7 hours that day. We've talked about her ubering down and me meeting her later in the day, which would work, but I'm just trying to figure out my options.

I was thinking I could hit a couple stores, grab breakfast, hit an indoor range and a maybe a movie before checking into our room. Not sure if there are other options as well. Not really looking for 'touristy' options, more like decent time sinks. Hell, I'd even consider something like an arcade or casino to kill some time.

Any recommendations? Any decent indoor ranges in the area? Can any recommended a good theater? Anything I should avoid?

Depending on the weather, maybe drive up to the Nature Reserve at Bolsa Chica, wander around there, take some pictures.  Probably about 20 minutes up PCH

Drive south on PCH about 10 miles to Laguna.  Walk around and stop in the numerous galleries they have.  There's a lot of nice art to see there.  Costs nothing to look but do not be surprised if you find something you like.

Evan's Gunsmithing/Shooter World in Orange has a nice range. It's about the same distance as The Firing Line in HB from Newport.
Hit Rifle Gear in Fountain Valley, nice shop and great people.  Fry's is right next door to them (practically) another way to kill time.
You didn't say what part of Newport, by the beach or ?? it does make a difference. I live near the Costa Mesa, Newport, Santa Ana borders.
There was a Gun-show scheduled at the Fairgrounds but it was canceled when the MAGA march was originally going to kick off from there.  March is set for Bolsa Chica/ North HB area.

It ended up not mattering, but their conference was being held at the Balboa Bay Resort. I Had my range bag packed and a couple books figuring I'd sit at a coffee shop for a while but I woke to a ragging headache and vertigo so I didn't go.

I'm just now getting up and getting ready to head out that way for the dinner. I'm not looking forward to this...

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions, I was actually looking forward to the galleries and conservation area of Bolsa Chica.
