I'm proposing some shooting , campin and a little 4wheeling O say oct nov.
Somewhere central so we can get as many people involved as we can. This may just be our last chance. |

Blm land on San Bernardino county would be the best bet. Or maybe Kern.

No I haven't even looked , I'm hoping someone knows somewhere. Yeah, these have been proposed before and the issue is the size of the state. Distances kill it. Probably get the biggest group in SoCal. |

I'm interested in this...but distances can be an issue here.
Unfortunately, one of the more interesting places in Kern that I would have recommended is currently on fire. Oct/Nov is a good time for me in So-Cal; I hate the heat here, and it starts cooling down at that time. Are we just looking at outdoor stuff, or do we want to be close to an established range? I'm good with either...but I think I'd be more comfortable on BLM land with this group. |

Checking in from Oceanside.
If it's going to be SoSoCal the fish creek area in Anza borrego state park could take care of the 4 wheeling and camping and there's BLM land just outside the park east of the gypsum mine and split mountain road for shooting. There's also a decent camping/shooting spot on BLM land off Ft Irwin road up by Barstow. |
|
We used to have some fun at Burro Canyon but it's not particularly convenient unless you are in LA or Orange County. Plus some old fart used to bring a Garand and convert shooters to real rifles.
I would think west side of Kern County on BLM land might be the most convenient for most from most of the state. If we are looking at only So Cal, or defaulting to a So Cal location, BLM land out around Barstow would be good for a weekend meet. Maybe up around Mojave. |

Mojave is the site of a wind farm.
I went camping and shooting there. Once. Wind was relentless. |

The one thing that I've learned over the years is that people don't like to post their shooting spot online. Reason being is that people show up and start trashing the place.
Or they post the location and now every swinging Richard is out there. That just makes the spot worn out, trashed and then closed by the BLM. The spot that I've been going to for 20+ years is known to people but I've never seen it mentioned before. We've had at least 100 people out there on a weekend, no problems and everyone went home safe. Best time to go is Oct. thru May as the desert is just to freakin hot the rest of the time. Just remember that if you think you're far enough out, your not. Always carry a firearm with you, just think of the movie the hills have eyes! |

I have lost a few places over the years because I was so flippant about who I was sharing with. None the less, we should get together and blast some targets. It would be great if this site would get a stronger contingency, and we it would help us to be more organized. |

Yeah and the best part is that there's enough space to shoot out to 2000+ yards.
It used to be better but like I said, people know about the spot. Had a large building on it at one time, great for camping out in. That and we used to leave the steel targets out there until some asshat stole our 36" gong! I'll see if I can find some pics. |

Who's Randall?
I know some people brought friends and plenty of people always go there, so it's possible. There's always a good sized group that goes out there a couple times a year. That and I've been out there when a large group of people I didn't know we're out there. So anything is possible when you go out in the outback. |

There is a range in Ridgecrest which might be accommodating. View Quote Oct is a good time of the year to shoot around this area. I'm usually on my to mammoth once or twice a month this time of year so I'm up for anything north of Adelanto and south of the 203 cut off along the 395. |

Ridgecrest gun range association. Am told they are very nice and membership is cheap.

So, does anyone want to set up a shoot in Oct? Say around the 3rd weekend or... either the weekend of the 15th or 22nd?
We can do one of those ranges or my spot, I won't post it but will email it to those that are planning to go. |

jawbone canyon, free camping, shooting friendly, and offroad trails for days
|

Some place 5th wheel accommodating? I'd show just for the range time though. We had a trip a couple years ago, Davis I think it was. Froze our asses off. But it was good to meet and greet. Taft and VacaDuck and others.

Down out of Bakers field would be a trip. Need a Friday and Monday off.
Edit: Ridgecrest gun range |

How is the first weekend in November at ridgecrest ?
Saturday and Sunday shooting and eating with some general shit talking. |

Jawbone isn't the best place to host a large group of shooters. Not to mention if you plan on shooting any kind of distance.
With people riding around on bikes, quads, four wheelers... how you're going to keep them from crossing into the area set up as a range will be challenging. Over by Ridgecrest is plenty of open space for shooting and hosting large numbers of shooters. If this is going to happen, one or two people need to take charge and set a date and place. From there everyone will have to adjust their schedule to go. |
