I have a friend with a used Para 1911 model #96663 that just fell off the California roster the first of this year. Is it legal to buy and transfer a used hand gun that is no longer sold as new here in California!

Nope. If it's being imported into the state it must be on Roster.

CA sucks.

If you already own it and move to CA, you can keep your handguns and long guns (as long as they are not "assault weapons"), correct?

Correct.
Though you have only 30 (60?) days to register them or you're screwed on that front.

And when you do Kamala Harris will make every Californian pay tenderly.

I registered 23 guns with a single packet.....so she sent me 23 separate letters confirming registration of each gun. Twenty three stamps instead of a single piece of paper with a list of serial numbers and a single stamp. And I'm just one person, imagine how much money she's wasting as the Attorney General dealing with the lives of 39 million people.

I brought off-roster handguns with me. No problem registering them.

Curious, what kind of long guns can you get in other states that you can't get in CA? Can't think of any off the top of my head right now

Never mind. I had read the post wrong. I thought there were some others that fell under the category of long guns and that couldn't be gotten here. aside from those labeled as "assault weapons"
