I have the option of taking 41 or I-75 from SW Florida to Key West.  Is there a reason not to take 41?  Are there any sights along the way?

Is the route pretty well populated in the event of car trouble?  May seem like a dumb question, but I'm driving a 2005 Honda Pilot I just bought with a house.  It's a good car, but if I were to have car trouble, mama would kill me if we couldn't get help real quick.

No, 41 is not populated hardly any.

Interstate at least has cops and those state emergency trucks.

I try to always go 41 - nostalgia I guess, trying to hold on to memories from back in the early 60's when my grandpa and me traveled from Miami to the 10 thousand islands to fish. I miss those days.

Some things to see:
Joanie’s Blue Crab Cafe
Skunk Ape Research Headquarters
Ochopee Post Office (smallest PO in the USA)
ValuJet Flight 592 Memorial
Shark Valley

Kinda "touristy" but I dig that kinda stuff.

The Keys is a regular vacation spot of mine and I take 41 every time.  I can't recall what the time or distance savings are, if any, versus doing the boring run across The Alley but the ride feels faster to me despite the occasional slower speed zones.  I also like the sights of all the various palm tree nurseries once you come out the other side of 41 and head south.

When I go to the Keys from St. Pete its 275, 41 and Khrome for me, a bit slow but I fall asleep on the interstate. Way too boring.

41 is my preferred route.

I always take the alley to 27, then jump on the turnpike to Florida city.

If the wind is bad or traffic on 75 I'll take 41

I have to drive there probably twice a month from Fort Myers.

I prefer 41, but one slow truck/RV can screw up your drive if you're in a hurry.

I have to say that I'm impressed that not one of us said, "The main reason to not take US41 to Key West is that it doesn't go there.  It ends in Miami at US1 which does go to Key West."

I wound up taking 75 both ways.  I intended to take 41 home, but someone put the wrong route into the iphone gps.  The ride on Rt 1 on a Saturday is a PITA!

Wait until there is a bad accident on Rt. 1 and traffic comes to a stop and backs up for fitty miles.

Anyone take the "Loop" off 41? Only road in Monroe County on the mainland iirc.

It was a good trip - an easier drive home on Monday vs the drive to KW on Saturday.

Did not see any BFL's.

You mean Loop Road off 41. Not now. It floods between Seminole Village and Crestview.
Can't even roll down your window. Mosquitos.

Turner river road is closed, Wagon wheel off 29 is closed.
Birdon road is open and you can get to Turner river road that way. Also mosquitos are horrendous.

But I go when and where I want.

Glock 41 is a bit bulky to bring to Key West.

I prefer a 26.

I avoid I-75 at all costs.   :)
