Can anyone figure out why these two MP5's have such a large price difference?

I do see that one has a 25 round magazine and the other has a 10 round mag but they shouldn't be that different in price, right?

Same gun, different prices.
Prices vary wildly sometimes on this type of item.

I bought mine for $250 NIB

Probably because they're being sold by a company that not a single gun owner should ever buy anything from.

It's H&K ... why does it matter that Cheaper Than Dirt is re-selling it?

I was just answering your question about CTD's pricing structure.

Besides, it's not H&K. It's Walther.

Well it looks like they are both made by H&K.  I'm just asking if it's G2G.

Neither one of those is H&K. They are made by Walther and imported by Umarex.

Neither is actually made by HK. Both are made by Walther / Umarex under license from HK. Semantics though. Edit: GP beat me to it.

One of my friends bought one for his kid to get him interested in shooting and gun safety. The kid likes it... but it is a pretty plasticky thing. Feels more like an airsoft rifle to me than a "real" gun. But my friend's kid loves it and from what I can tell it is reliable and moderately accurate at pistol ranges.

Ah well good to know, thanks guys.

Got any links where I could find a legit H&K MP5 SD?

Are the ATI GSG 522's good to go?

No experience with .22 MP5s, but I haven't heard great things. A legit H&K MP5 SD is going to set you back several thousand dollars. The answers to these questions will help us know exactly what you're wanting:

Are you wanting a .22LR or a 9mm?
Are you wanting it to actually be suppressed, or do you want it to have a fake suppressor?

I know a lot of people bought the ATI 522's, but I've never known anyone who owned one personally.

HK never made a .22 cal MP5 and the "real" 9mm HK MP5's are floating on the pre 86 machine gun market. Expect to pay new car prices for them.

There are however a lot of high quality 9mm clones on the market now. MKE, POF and the domestic builders all make damn good MP5 clone guns. Ballpark starts around $1500 and up on them depending on maker and quality level. I have two MKE's and they are nice, built in Turkey on HK equipment they are pretty darn close to a real factory HK MP5.

I think I'm in the wrong forum then LOL just looking for a fun .22lr range toy.  A real suppressor would set me back more than I'd like to spend on it.

Then it sounds like those Umarex .22s are what you are looking for.

Agreed. Do some research on them and make sure they're reliable first, because as we know...22s aren't typically the most reliable guns in the world.

As already pointed out, H&K doesn't make the H&K MP-5 in .22lr.  They have another company make it for them and slap their name on them.

Presently, there is the Umarex version with the H&K name and the ATI version.  Note: The ATI originally had the GSG-5 but it was too close a copy to the real H&K so there sere some changes made and it is now called the 522.  There are kits to replace the 522 parts with the GSG-5 parts so it again looks like the H&K.

The ATI version is less expensive and often discounted.  PSA has them on sale right now for $199.

Reliability varies depending on who you talk to, with most people saying both work ok.

I have an original GSG-5 I got a long time ago and SBR'ed mine, pictured below.  I also got a real suppressor for it but the suppressor is smaller than the original fake suppressor covering the 16" barrel so while it works good, it looks a bit odd.

Its the same rifle in the links. While HK did not actually make the rifles,it is licensed through Carl Walther ( GERMANY )  to manufactor them. It does have HK on the receiver.   They are very well made and accurate . I have the one with the fake suppressor . The rifle is alittle heavy. It's not a light weight . It's a very good cloning of a MP5  but in a reliable 22 LR .. Get one . Wardawg

I see that the lightweight versions cost less but have a polymer receiver.  Do the lightweight versions seem cheap or are they well built?

Two things:

Difference between the two, is that one comes with a 25rd mag, the other a 10rd mag. That makes them different product SKUs in CTDs system.

Also, CTD is basically an umbrella of independent warehouses, advertising on a single website. That is why products vary in price from warehouse to warehouse. While I see you don't get the option to buy firearms from different warehouses, wouldn't surprise me if that explained the $150 price difference.

I have an original GSG5, not a 522 but mine has been perfect for thousands of rounds. Besides the exterior they are the same gun.  If you can find an original GSG5 before the lawsuit it would be your best option for a .22 MP5.  Better looking than the 522 and just a better made gun than the Walther. You can find them for around $500 usually.

I have a pre-lawsuit GSG, love it, also installed the screw kit someone was selling. I opted for the SD kit later on, one of my favorite 22s.

Agreed. The HK/Walther .22/MP5's are a lot of fun to shoot. Had mine for a few years now and it's honestly one of the most fun and cheapest guns I've ever owned.

Forget the GSG. They just are not on par with the HK/Walther models.
