I've got an Octane 45 I'm waiting on a Form 4 for to use on my SW5 and other hosts. What kind of ammo do you all like for this setup (or something similar)? I was looking at Freedom Munition's 147 grain new manufactured, but not sure about the quality. Thanks for the input?

Honestly, with all the different clone manufacturers out there the best way to figure it out is order a few boxes of every subsonic ammo that SGammo or a similar estore has in stock. 30 round mags make testing a breeze.

My Atlantic might like different ammo than your SW5 which will like different ammo from a Getz gun or a SP89.

What kind of ammo does your clone like? Might as well start there.

I have used a lot of different types. American Eagle works well as does Winchester. The most quiet was the train ammo from the Winchester train and defend line because it's downloaded a little bit. PRVI 158 grain worked well too but was no more quiet than the train ammo. I never experienced any malfunctions with any of it but I use only curved 30 round German mags or POF mags.

I run a octane 9 HD for my can.

I've had the best luck with 147gr bullets that have rounded profiles.

The Federal 147gr flat points have been troublesome for me in my MP5, Glock 19 and SIG P239 when suppressed with my Octane.

Reloaded Freedom Munitions fodder has been reliable for me, but not as accurate as factory loads. I have also had good luck with the UMC, and Fiocchi, but it's not always available.

Nowadays I'm reloading round profile 147gr lead on the cheap, but at the same time I absolutely HATE cleaning lead from my can. It's a Catch 22.

Has anybody tried the new manufactured 147 grain from Freedom Munitions? It's probably more consistent than the remanufactured stuff and isn't all that much more expensive.

What about Speer Lawman 9mm Luger Ammo 147 Grain Total Metal Jacket?  They have it in regular and some sort of clean version.  They are flat point, but a more rounded flat point.

I don't know about the clean version but the standard Speer lawman 147 TMJ ran well for the few magazines I got to put through of it.

I run 180gr fmj Geico or Privi through my Gemtech Raptor.  Have shot Ammo-Lab reman as well with good results.

Special K or Rem 147.

What about low-cost options? I'm a law student without much funds for hobbies...

Anything but steel case and re manufactured.

I shoot WWB 9mm with no issues in my full-auto clone.
I may move to a 147gr for the sound profile, if and when I find some that is cheap enough.

This.

If it's cheap, I shoot it.

Picked up a thousand rounds of sub sonic 158GR Fioochi from Midway. Seems ideal for suppressor use, I haven't shot it yet.

Is 158gr OK to shoot in MP5 type weapons?  I seem to remember reading something about it not being recommended for MP5s?

I have an F gun  because I prefer 158.  So far over 3k through it and I haven't broken a bolt group.... Yet.

I might not shoot it in a regular clone.  Well I would, I just wouldn't recommend anyone else to.

Don't shoot sub sonic rounds through an MP5SD

I'm just going to fire one box each of Speer Lawman, American Eagle, Winchester, and Freedom Munitions and see what happens.

Lawman is loaded more hotly than the rest; it will not be suppressed as well as the others. Freedom 147 works best for me.

Because subsonic rounds through an MP5SD, with the properly ported barrel, might lose too much velocity, improperly stabilize, and/or cause baffle strikes. The MP5SD is made for use with supersonic ammo, using the barrel ports to reduce velocity to subsonic levels.

My concern is that the FM brass might be too soft for the MP5's action, with its fluted chamber and roller-locked delayed blowback action.

I load my own.

147gr Zero FMJ
3.4gr Titegroup
Win SPP
Mixed brass

Much quieter than factory and cheaper.

I didn't have any problems using american eagle 147 gr flat nose in my clone.  It's the only 147 gr I've used so far.  Hard to tell a difference between that and other 115gr since it was indoors.

I've used FM 147 almost exclusively and it's been flawless.  Buy with confidence.  Have some Fiocchi 147 I haven't shot yet, but I stick to round nose and all has been good.

Federal AE9N2.

147gr subsonic 9mm *round nose* TMJ.

960fps from Hk MP5-N through an AAC Evo-9.  Never misfeeds if you have serviceable factory Hk mags.

If there's better and quieter, I have not yet found it.

(I will also say that Federal HST 147gr +P feeds well in my MP5 and is quiet when suppressed.  Pricey though, to say the least.)

I'm sure it's good stuff, but it looks like it's either out of stock or twice as expensive at online retailers.

Probably a market-driven reason for that, I'm betting.
