I know the usual suspects (HK Parts, Robertrtg), but are there any other good sources for MP5 mags right now? Preferably any place that might have a slightly better price.

gunbroker, sturmgewehr, etc. Keep your eye peeled on Sturm. I got a 5 pack of brand new LEO marked mags in the wrap for 200$ last year.
Also the POF magazines RTG sells are pretty good. I've had a few that are a little over sized and tight but still lock up in all my guns. |

Keep an eye on the EE here and the classifieds at HKPro also. Occasional deals pop up

I'm really good friends with a vendor who sells magazines at gun shows for a living. I'm the only one with MP5s that he knows so when he gets them in on trade, he sets them aside for me. Barely used curved German 30 round mags for $30 each and 15 rounders for $25 each, so I buy them up when he gets them. I've owned some POF ones and I don't think I ever had a malfunction with them, I just ended up selling them off because I have like 15 German ones now.

Tag. Me looking too. I''ll settle for POF ones at the right price though.

Vance Outdoors had them for $35/ea shipped. Used. Got 12- 8 were LEO marked and 4 regular black. Most looked like new.

If any of you get in touch with them and they still have some in stock, could you reserve 10 for me? ETA: Called. No 30rd mags left. They have two 40rd mags left. 29 and change each. |

I have several of the 40's that
were made by MaxCap Products from when they sold to civilians. They work great and there was a time when they could be had for about $29 each, IIRC. I have a mag vendor at my local show that typically has 30's for $30 to $40, I think, but that's too high for me to be interested in buying more. Good Luck. John |

I bought 5 of the Korean/ATI mags for my SW5 from RTG, $20/ea. Ran fine for 90 rounds per mag or so, I let my sons shoot it til they got tired of loading mags.

Karma is a bitch. Hk parts dot net. Factory hk mags for 34.95 each. I am tempted to pick up one of these 1978/1979 date stamped magazines and try my hand at finishing. The early curved mags have a plastic follower and require a small bend in the mag spring to use a modern spring ( the plastic follower has a hole for the mag spring to connect it). Otherwise, they are the same as modern mags and will take a modern metal follower ($15 from Midwest Gunworks) and modern spring. Likely the finish is not that bad since the original plating is very good and resistant. I bought a few to see how they come. I have others of the same vintage and also from the early '80's. Believe it or not, but the US Marine Corps MP's SWAT/ SRT and the predecessor to DET1/Recon threw away the plastic follower mags in 1984 (both at Camp Del Mar) when they had an order specifying the modern metal follower mags that started to enter procurement in '82. I was in highschool and was working as a lifeguard on Camp Pendleton then and went dumpster diving to get a few hundred excellent condition mags. I knew what I was looking at since my dad (who had a class 3 FFL at the time and a several MP5s - yes there was such a thing in California before the bullshit.) I wish I still had the majority of them today, but the value around the Clinton AWB was too high (around $100 each) to do anything but sell them and cash in as a 24 year old needing money to support his women habit. |
|
California was different in the 80's.
I will agree with you there on class 3 stuff. Remember seeing 1919s and MG42s at Angeles shooting range. |

Your the AssHat speaking about something which you have no knowledge of.. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes What do you mean no knowledge?!?! Are you 13 y/o or just can't read???? I do have knowledge, READ WHAT THE ACTUAL SELLER IS TELLING YOU... READ! HKParts.Net:
"Some have pitting, small dents, heavy finish wear. etc. Each is in working condition they just need to be refinished or leave them as is for a great option for range mags. Each magazine is rated fair-good condition. Sold as is" Aren't they describing REALLY used magazines? And why do you care if I ordered some or not? It says what it says on their site, don't like it, don't order or call them up to bitch, moan and whine about THEIR description. Didn't you read before ordering?!? |

anyone know where to buy the 10 or 15 round mags? View Quote HKParts.net was selling both, but Midwest Gun Works had 15 rounders for a better price the last time I looked. Generally, the 15 rounders cost more than the 30 round mags. For 10 round mags, I think there is only US made ones these days. |
|
|
Hope they work out for you! Finish is beat and few pitting spots here and there. Maybe a quick rattle can refinish after degreasing?

View Quote I got a few of these on a trade deal. They weren't terribly reliable out of the box (they were new in the ATI boxes), but when I swapped to a HK spring they are decent training mags. The original Korean springs are about 4 inches shorter than HK springs. |
|
View Quote I bought 5 of them, ran each for 90 rounds when I took my sons shooting. No issues with the SW5 or the mags. |
|
My korean mags work well for everything but the last round. They always jam the last round for some reason.
I bought a few of these 1978 mags and they seem to work just fine for me in every regard. I may send the bodies to my bro for some cerakote lovin'. |
|
I picked up some pitted rusty MP5 mags a while back and got them cerakoted black. They came back with a nice flat black finish but the cerakote is very thin layer, so the pitting was still visible.
For the surplus mags that HK Parts is selling I think I might go with Duplicolor semigloss black engine enamel paint, it comes in 500F and 1200F heat rated types. Preheat the mags and postheat after painting and it should be good enough for decent looking range mags. Here's a link to my pics thread of cerakoted MP5 mags, cerakoted Glock, and cerakoted Sterling mags. Edited. |
|
For those that got those older surplus ones from hk parts, do you plan to change out the plastic follower to a metal follower? Have you been able to run them reliably?
|
|
The US made CM marked mags any good?
I figured on picking up a few of these and using them while I reserve the HK ones as collection :) |
