Anybody make a FAL in 556?

Imbel did, or possibly still does. There have been a couple companies that attempted an aluminum-receiver FAL in 5.56, but they never did too well and I wouldn't trust aluminum to hold the pressure. Having fired a FAL in 5.56, I can tell you that it is quite heavy and has significantly more recoil than an AR. Not worth the time or effort.

That said, I really wish someone made a 5.56 rifle in .223 that had the control scheme of the FAL.

One of the members on FALFiles called Meeper did/does FAL switch-barrel conversions. Very nice work, but I do not know if he's still in business.
I had one of his 7.62NATO/5.56NATO/.50 Beowulf rifles for a time; it mostly stayed in the 5.56 configuration. Ended up selling it for some stupid and long-forgotten reason like food or something.
Yes, it's too big and heavy for the cartridge, but with a para lower, that was a very fun and cool rifle.
Meeper used an FNC barrel and a delrin (?) magwell adapter for M-16 mags.
Others have built FALs in 7.62x39 using AK barrels and mags; this conversion is both closer to the original FAL concept (7.92x33 Kurz) and apparently easier to do.

Springfield imported them back during the 94 ban decade. Making them 922 comp was easy. Thanks to FSE, Tapco, DSA. AND a dremel /WECSOG the funky muzzle device.

yes the mag looks weird. I used a BDM 22 mag for standing the rifle up

That's about as close to the FAL's manual of arms as an AR is, which is to say not much at all.
