Nothing special about M2 AP "black tip" ammo, it was the predominate ammo produced during WW2.  Common as grass.

Any ".30-06" ammo produced prior to circa 1952 should be treated as corrosive.  ".30-06" in quotes as it was last produced during WW1 (one) and replaced with M1 Ball afterwards due to inadequate long range ballistics of the original cartridge which fell well sort of the markings on the M1903 and M1917 rifles and various machine guns.

M2 Ball replaced M1 Ball when it proved too heavily loaded for rifles and trajectories now exceeded published range fans and rifle ranges.  M2 Ball and M2 AP mimic the ballistics of the olde .30-06 military cartridge.  No relationship to commercial ammo marked .30-06 other than they both chamber.  The M1 rifle was designed around the higher powered M1 Ball -- no relationship with the M-numbers.  Heck we're driving M1 tanks these days!
