I'm looking to get a M1 carbine, and want it to be something that I can shoot. Is it better to go with a WWII vintage M1 or get a new one from Inland or AO?

WWII M1 carbines in my area are $1,000 +, and a new one is right at $1,000.

That was a great read. Seems like Fulton might be the way to go for a new one.

One thing to remember is a commercal carbine will only go down in value, a USGI carbine will increase in value

I wish someone made them in other calibers.

Take a look in the EE.  I just picked up a 6 digit inland from a forum member here.  It's a mix master that went through an arsenal rebuild.  I wanted a shooter in good shape, not something too collectable to shoot, which is what I got for well under $1000.

But as stated, a USGI carbine will appreciate in value, and I really enjoy the history of the WWII guns.

Fulton Armory. Excellent quality, shoot well. Consider purchasing the barreled action (stripped or complete) and build the rest. GI's are fine but some require replacement parts (barrels/bolts), and many owners seem to keep them as safe queens, afraid to devalue there rifle. I purchase rifles to shoot.

I would look for an import marked USGI rifle with a good ME reading.  I just picked up an IBM with some ammo, brass, bullets, and dies for around $700.  I figure I'm into the rifle for under $600 after deducting the value of the extras that I would have bought anyway.

Is the IBM an OA receiver or an IBM receiver?

It is an IBM receiver.
