Anyone ever ran into this on a Garand? I think someone was trying to do some sort of getto gas pressure relief mod. The cut is just on the gas key and didn't get into the gas cylinder and it still functions fine but I have a replacement on the way.

Hard to tell from that fuzzy picture but was the gas cylinder lock welded to the gas cylinder? I've seen a fair number of drill/salute rifles that were welded that way.
Any chance the barrel is or was tack welded to the receiver under the rear/lower handguard? |
