@Thor
I didn't mean to sound like I was calling you out. I edited my quotes to remove your name. The point of my post was exactly as stated: The claims of Mfr's are held to such a higher standard and, yes, you're waiting a bit longer for a Form 4. While, the claims of Form 1 builders are good enough as the spoken word. For me, I build suppressors because they cost next to nothing. Also, I try to copy proven designs. Yes, I've gone out on a limb, several times, but usually went w/ known features in unknown configurations. It doesn't help that my profession deals with combustion technologies. |

There are different tier's of us form 1 er's. some go the pre-fab route which can add up quickly and like you mentioned can cost as much or more than a commercial can.
But one cannot discount the pride in doing it yourself, to some of us that is more valuable. Currently there is also another bonus of Form 1's which is turn around. you can get a E-form 1 approved in a few weeks vs 13+ months for a form 4 (what it's taking a few of the guys I work with) if you spend a little extra time (or money) you can build a can that you can alter the configuration to see if it "sounds" better to you by making a series of spacers vs 1 spacer per baffles. There are no extra parts but you can close up and space your baffles accordingly and test things out. I've handled a dozen or so commercial cans and no 2 are alike. (well the mini 4 and sdn-6 were pretty similar) but it goes to show there are several ways to skin a cat. For example you have cans like the Sdn6 that weigh a ton and has a grip of baffles fairly closely spaced together and then you have something like the ultra 7 which has just 7 baffles equally spaced apart (from what I can tell) symetrical clips and the ultra 7 to my ear is quieter than the sdn6, weighs significantly less and is notably shorter. I fall somewhere in the middle. I can make my own baffles and tubes so i'm only out a stamp, material cost and time, but it takes quite a bit of time and I don't have the equipment/skill to do anything intricate. but I enjoy doing it and have the pride of doing it myself. |

I've been out of it for a while. Does DM still offer cones ? Never did finish my design but now that there may be time to work on the design, I'd like to get that finished and submit the paperwork. No point in DIY if I can't get good cones and spacers though.

DM sells cones with his kits. Can't buy them individually.
Muted Machine Works has skirted and soon will have skirtless. SPC has some. aegis will soon have some leftover Totality cones. sergeant on the Form1 board placed an order for some skirted 1.497" cones that are based on what DM used to sell. He is looking for buyers. |

I’ve seen PreppersDiscount come up a couple times but haven’t actually seen anyone give an opinion on them, they seem relatively cheaper then some other places so I was wondering what people have to say on the products?
