I just picked up what I believe to be a 1981 Mini 14 for a really reasonable price. Better than I am comfortable with actually. It is in great condition with the stock mag and two 20 round Ruger mags.   The person that sold it to me was at a disadvantage during the negotiations (I can't say why...).  What is this rifle actually worth?  I want to pay him a fair price.  Sorry for the crap pictures.  I am not even sure what part of the rifle to take a pic of...

One can now build an AR for around $400.  So while it might sell for more than that, it's worth $300-350.

looks like it's in really good condition.

I'm not sure what an older mini-14 would sell for, but you might get a better idea if you ask on a board that isn't crazy about ar-15 s.

ask on THR.    also,  look at the closed auctions on gunbroker to see what they have sold for.

if someone wants an nice older mini-14, it won't matter what it costs to build an AR.

If it sells for more than $300-$350, then it's worth more than $300-$350.

OP, I've recently sold minis on consignment at the shop for $550ish.  Ones in that shape with the wood handguards have historically brought about $650.

182 series. $400 is fair for both parties involved.

Does it have a roller bolt? That is worth a little more.
Some of the early 181, 182, 183 series had a roller bearing where the bolt rides in the receiver.

Newer 580 series are selling for $550 used in this area.

Thanks for all the info.  Based on what you guys said, I went back and paid the guy more to make it a good deal for both of us.  Thanks!
