Also look at a Saiga 223. I have both the Saiga and a Mini and the Saiga is a better rifle: Cheaper, better barrel, able to scope easier with the optic plate, and ubiquitous AK parts.

Found one in my LGS but he wants $769.99. Seems high. |

I don't know about Walmarts in New York, do they sell guns? If so, ask to see if they can order it for you. Ours has a gun book you can browse, see something you want and they can check stock. If they have it at the warehouse you can get it in a week or two.

Hoffman's gunshop in CT was modifying the Mini Tactical model with a pinned muzzle brakes to make them legal. I haven't been there in a few months so I'm not sure if they're still selling them. Try calling.

Thanks, Mike. You could Durakote them black. Brownell's sells a heat resistant laquer that would work as well. |

Thanks for all the replies. I found some locally but the price was high.
So I bough a pair of A400 Beretta shotguns for my sons. The purchase of the Mini 14 will have to wait for more funds. In the process of cleaning out the safe and selling off what I don't need. |

I believe I paid $750 for my #5816 (18.5" blued/20rd) when I bought it in WA a couple years ago.
I don't think from a brick & mortar store you're likely to pay less than that for a new one. |
