If they are barely into June would April at the earliest be a good prediction?

Sometime between February and December.

Really no way to tell yet.  When they get to the mid-July submissions, there will be two new issues to contend with:

-The huge glut of forms sent in that last week or two before 41F went into effect.  This will cause a sudden choke point.

-Dealing with the new rules with post-41F submissions.  The added steps to now also perform background checks with trusts, most with multiple people to do them on.  The headaches with having to determine who is/isn't a responsible person by thoroughly reading each unique trust, and then dealing with the inevitable increase in denials and/or possible error letters to correct forms not submitted correctly under the new rules, and so on.

All of this will likely bump the wait times up very quickly, and until the dust settles and we see where it all lands we won't really know what to predict.

IMHO - anything short of a year will be a miracle, forget about it and move on

Where did you hear they were into June?
I get 8-10 stamps a week and all are from Feb/Mar submissions.

NFATracker shows a handful of form 4's from June and July, but the bulk are from mid-April.

ATF's last update on processing times (8/31/2016) showed eight months average for Form 1's and 4's.

Are these all paper forms? Eforms are into June. My 6/3 form 1 was just approved.

I've learned that in the SBR forum everyone assumes approvals are for Form 1s. In the Silencer forum everyone assumes approvals are for Form 4s.

Everything coming in now is mid-April submissions. Eight months from submission has been holding fairly steady.

The ATF average processing time update mentioned above is eight months for both Form 1 and Form 4.......doesn't matter what firearm.

On NFA tracker, you can see returns are trending sharply up.  Nothing is holding steady.

I just called ATF for a Mar 31 purchase.  They said they are currently processing April.  Mine was actually sent to them in May, probably form 3 to my dealer first, then form 4.  Next month is most likely for me. ( silencer shop purchases)

8 months is what he stated as current processing time.

Right until they hit the July 41F glut.  It could be well over a year wait for stuff at and beyond that bottleneck.

My SS purchase shows form 3 approved 8/8 and form 4 submitted 7/7

I know they kinda time it and have approval as well so the form 4 is submitted prior to the form 3 getting approved. But I have no idea where or what I should be looking at for time wise. I called few weeks ago and ATF had no info on my form 4 being in pending etc.  my birthday is in March. So I suppose if the time line holds I'll have a nice bday present to myself.

I would be very surprised if you got you form approved before mid July. Realistically, you are prob looking at October or later. The wait time will increase astronomically once they get to June-July submissions.

The June and July mountain of forms is going to cause a huge slowdown thanks to everyone that procrastinated and/or made an overnight decision to make a last minute purchase.  A form submitted in 8/16 is going to be the worst case scenario.

ETA: This is a portion of what has to clear before it gets to you.
