if its your one and only NFA stamp, probably not worth the effort...

but start mounting cans and you will appreciate the shorter length.

BRs are worth every penny, they are so much more fun.

Well worth it.

It's the most cost-effective NFA item there is. SBR one and reconfigure it with as many uppers as you can afford. I think short is more useful than suppressed.

Yes.

ETA, here's a comparison between the 11.5/can and a 16"

It's like having your windows tinted. Once you get it done, you'll never own a car without it again.

Yes. 4.5" shorter, 5.5" shorter and 3" shorter. Shorter and quieter is best.

Yes but if you go with a 10.5 barrel you will need a new rail as well. The 10 inch kmr will be over part of your flash hider/muzzle break.

So I've got an Aero Precision lower with a BCM 14.5 bbl upper and 10" KMR rail.

I'm thinking about SBR'ing it and changing the barrel to 10.5" using the same rail.

I figure it will cost about $600 by the time I'm done with the trust, tax stamp and parts.

Does that sound about right?

That's a lot of $$$ to save 4" of length.

It would pack easier.

I wanted to get a trust anyhow so my son and I could share a suppressor.

So was building an SBR worth the $$$ and hassel?

The second picture is an excellent illustration of the advantages of a SBR.

I just built a 16" upper and it SUCKS with a can on the end. I'm now questioning why I built it in the first place...

Barrel chop at Adco:        $60 ish
Tax stamp:                      $200
Fingerprints and photos:  $50?
Engraving:                        $50

Sounds like you're off by almost $250.
