I'm planning on doing an upper with a  4.5" .22LR barrel, a can (Spectre II, 5.9" long) and a handguard long enough to cover both. However, as I understand it, the .22 barrels recess into the upper further than a regular 5.56 barrel, which makes gauging length deceptive.

How much does the 4.5" barrel actually stick out of the upper? I'd like to maximize on handguard length without going overboard.

This my 4.5" CMMG barrel with a Spectre II.  It is 8.75" to the end of the silencer and 3.25" to end of the barrel.  The rail is Midwest Industries 7" Gen 2.

ETA: Silencer sticks out a hair over 1.5".
