After exercising poor judgement by browsing Rainier's website I'm now trying to justify buying one of their ultramatch billet receiver sets (https://www.rainierarms.com/rainier-arms-ultramatch-billet-upper-ambi-lower-combo-set-mod-3) or possibly a Mega NIB receiver set (https://www.rainierarms.com/mega-billet-upper-ambi-lower-ch-combo-nib)

I've already got an 18" KAC LPR, a 11.5" 5.56 SBR and a 14.5" upper waiting for a 2nd SBR lower so I've got 5.56 pretty well bracketed for the most part - uber-short barreled (6") ARs are just silly and not for me. What are some more popular alternate calibers for AR-15's besides .300 blk and 6.8? I'm kinda talking myself toward a 6.8 SPC II 10"-16" rifle to use for range and if I can ever find land to hunt. I'm somewhat space limited which precludes getting myself a decent reloading setup.

What are the pro's/cons of 6.8 vs .300 BLK SBRs? I know .300 has a pistol length gas system.

I vote 6.8 unless you want a suppressed ar.

6.8 SBR is nice. Mine is 12" using a Bison BSP barrel.

Are these piston or DI guns? On the 68forum there's some noise about issues with <12" barrels, but I'm not sure what you can believe on the Internet these days...

Mine is DI. I took a 16" Bison barrel and cut it down to 12" (so ports on YHM FH were just outside handguard). ADCO opened port to what Ben @ Bison specs his port on the 11.5" version. It now has an SLR Sentry 7, and I've never had an issue with it running.

I'm over on 68F most every day, and I don't see a lot of discussion about issues with SBRs. Quite a few options <10" as well.

I had a 11.5 but now sport a 14.5 its perfect for me.

I have a 12.5" ARP barreled SBR with Balios Lite receivers topped off with a Crux Ark 30. Great hunting rifle and pretty dam sexy!

. I have a couple 16". 6.8 with a Bison Armory barrel and another ARP and they all shoot dam good with factory ammo. Never had any issues and all are DI mid length gas.

Can't justify a 300 and don't need another caliber.
