Subject pretty much covered it all.  Just curious what everyone thinks.  I will be shooting suppressed and unsuppressed.  Had my eye on the 11.5 inch upper from PSA, and the Mk18 upper from DD.

Longer is better, so 14.5". Then 12.5", and so on.

I run a suppressed 12.5" for home defense - overall length is similar to an unsupressed 16" rifle, and function was 100% right out of the gate.

I think I had really good luck but both my 12.5" and 7.5" ran perfectly from round 1.  I did a lot of reading on here to make sure I knew how to get them running right and it worked.  I have to imagine the DD Mk18 upper, ordered complete from DD, would run perfectly out of the box.  I have several of their uppers (including my 12.5") and they are top-notch.  The Mlk18 may very well be my next purchase.

Thanks for the reply.  I was just hoping not to spend a bunch of cash buying buffers and springs, etc. to get it to run correct.  12.5  is probably as long as I would want to go, so I am going to check out some uppers in that length.  Looking into a direct thread Trek for this rifle, what can do you use?

Ok thank you that is good to know. The DD is expensive, but I figured it might be GTG out of the box, so that is why it has me interested.

My 11.5" BCM upper has run flawlessly so far.

The only sbr I've ever personally need have trouble running was a 7.5". Everything from 10.3" has always run well with and without a can.  I would have no problem relying on a 10.3"

11.5, 100% out of the gate.

I agree with 11.5". I deployed with a 10.3" and would trust most of the civilian variants, but there is a pretty good gain in velocity between the 10.3 and 11.5"

If you're going to spend the $200 tax stamp to SBR I would go minimum 10.5"

11.5", then get a second upper in 14.5", like I did.

My 10.5" has always run perfectly, suppressed or unsuppressed, with every ammo and buffer combination I've ever tried. Same for my 14.5" and 20".

I have a half dozen 10.5's so I'm partial. Had a 12.5 but after adding a can, I felt like I may as well stick with a 16 inch since it felt long still...

I like 7.5 but after shooting one, I felt it was obnoxiously loud and is not recommended for most cans out there, since the gasses are still burning, it takes a toll on the blast baffle

Buy a Vltor A5 buffer system and good upper from a good manufacturer and you won't have to worry about getting it running. 7 inch, 10 inch, 12 inch, 14 inch.. doesn't matter as long as you buy smartly.

I built my own 7.5 upper and it's been 100% about 500 rounds of steel case and 100 of brass with my form1 can.

I built an 11.5" for my first and have had no issues.

Getting ready to build my 11.5. Are you running standard gas block or adjustable?

The reason shorter uppers are more finicky is due to the shorter dwell time which results in less gas available to reciprocate the bcg. If you plan on running a Gemtech Trek, you will get additional back pressure which will give you all you need to reliably cycle your bcg.

I have a Gemtech Trek on a 10.5" barrel which has been 100% reliable. I also have a titanium YHM that I run on an 11.5" that has been flawless as well. The 10.5" has a FSB and there's very little blowback. I run a Syrac adjustable on the 11.5" because the can is QD.

I have never built an SBR that has ever had problems...YMMV

Quality components = quality build.

11.5" is the answer to your question. Be sure to mate it with a BCM KMR rail.

My LMT 10.5" runs like a top with and without a can.

Both 11.5" and 10.3,10.5" have run perfect without any special buffers etc.

My 11.5 has been 100% reliable , about 1000 rounds down range so far, no suppressor yet, hopefully next year... I think anything over 10.5 your gonna be happy.. good luck

My 11.5 ran fine from the start.  H3 buffer.  Suppressed and unsuppressed like a top.

I have a 7.5" SBR that I never have had an issue with. I use a RRA barrel, H2 buffer, and KX3. It worked the same with and without the KX3.

I have a MK18 from DD.
keep in mind they're over gassed from the factory.
Love mine.

I highly suggest a govnah adjustable block if you're going to run it suppressed.

I'm building another 10.3" build off the DD barrel and I'll probably build a 12" soon after.

11.5" is my favorite length in general.  Factory velocity w/ Federal m193 is 2911fps out of an 11.5" and 2991fps out of a 14.5".  The extra length is not worth the 80fps to me.
