I put together a great SBR and intended to paint it all slick like. Well, I got some shine in the my system and got in a hurry and rushed through the final stage. Had promise but went downhill fast. I know it is bad

From reading the thread title I was expecting much worse. Looks pretty good to me. Much better than what I could do, I'm sure.

There's a good looking gun under there somewhere, honestly I'm a traditionalist so I hate any painted gun. They look back and the paint tends to chip off after a short time. I'm also not a fan rails.

I don't run safe queens. I am a function over form kind of guy. I painted it for the hell of it really. Came out terrible, but a learning experience.

i agree, i like it also.

but if you do decide to not paint over it and strip instead, this might help

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_19/319743_.html

I'm currently stripping one of my rifles (not using the paint stripper spray), what a PITA.

I don't want to strip it, just shoot it. It blends good enough

Ive seen much much worse paint jobs than that, plus if you use your rifle a lot the paint will fade, blend and chip away with time or you can always strip it.

I personally just went with colored furniture instead of a paint job. it gives a similar effect and wont ever wear off. Another option is to put the money into it and get it hydro dipped but again like regular paint it wears away or get it cerakoted, much more permanent but very durably, costly too.

The paint job looks kind of shiny and the patterns are a little "busy", but I was expecting a lot worse from the thread title.  I'm also not one for painting guns, but I had a Rhodesian FAL kit and it was pretty badass (the Rhodesians slopped paint all over 'em and the coloring is often referred to as "baby shit" ).

OP, saw your pic in the clone thread.  Honestly its not a bad paint job at all.  What I would do now is take your tan paint can and spray it from like 3 feet away to kind of get a dusting on it, to take away from the uniformity.  That is my recommendation.  The way you painted it and the thread you originally posted it in leads me to believe your looking for a beat, users rifle.  -In my opinion the best type of paint job.

I hate the fancy, expensive paint jobs personally.  It takes balls to rattle can expensive shit, and you've proved you've got em!  haha    It will start looking good with the chipping and wear marks once you put it through some hard use.

so when it comes to painting a rifle like this you really just rattle can that shit? i mean what else is there to it? do ya break it down or any trick like that? always thought about coin one of my rifles, but never have.

Just shoot it, the paint will wear off on the high spots and edges and will look great.

The great part about a Krylon job is if you don't like it, do it again.
