Hey guys, I currently had a 10.5" 5.56 with an AAC 51T muzzle brake. I know that 5.56 SBRs, especially around 10" and lower, give a lot more concussion, but does a muzzle brake actually make that concussion worse when shooting unsuppressed? I would imagine so, since the gasses/sound get redirected to the sides and partially back at you. I am just wondering if my concussion will reduce once I ditch the brake and when I shoot unsuppressed. Thanks.

Very much so, yes.

If you want to minimize the blast at the shooter try a "linear comp" like the Noveske flaming pig.

I did something really stupid with my 11.5" sbr the other day. I previously took the silencerco  trifecta flash hider off that I used for my can and put the silencerco break on there to prevent pre-mature

baffle wear. I had shot the can with the trifecta and no can and it wasn't that loud. Well I wanted to show someone the difference between the silencer and without so I shot it wthout the can. I didn't think

about the fact I had just put the break on there making it that much louder and it almost burst my ear drums. With the can it's quiet enough to shoot without hearing protection. With the trifecta and no can

it was not so loud that I couldn't shoot one round before. With the break one round will almost bust your ear drums.

It's really bad at the range where you are boxed in on either side. Outside isn't too bad, but it's very loud for sure. I let a buddy shoot my 10" at the range with a sisco brake on it and I could not even stand behind him and watch. Had to stand off to the side!

10.5's with brakes are evil

I got the Manticore Night Brake coming in for my M92 pistol which is 10 1/2"..

Some other brake/comps I've had.. (762x54R VEPR)

and some of the Miculek Comp/Brakes.

and the Damage Industries AK brake works great on the Saiga 762x39

I despise MBs.

Yes!! I have a brake on my AR....and I can feel the concussion coming back and hitting me in the face....and that's on a 16" barrel, not a pistol.

I have found my solution to SBR blast, for now.  Cans will be next, but linear comps rule for now.  A packed range hates me when I pull the MK18 out of the bag with just an NT4 hider.

I put this BRT linear on my latest little creation.  It is great!  Roughly the size of an A2

Thanks guys, that helps a lot. Would no hider/comp (threads only) have less concussion than a brake?

My 10.5 with aac brake requires plugs and muffs when not using a can. The compression can be felt in your chest too. I can't imagine shooting it inside.

My SBR AK has a brake on it and it will definitely spit fire and thump your chest. I try not to shoot it around anyone at the range because I'm sure it would piss them off. .

Reminds me of the first time I took the 50 Beo to the indoor range. It's a 16.5", but has the tank brake. Only lane open was the one next to the cinderblock wall. That was fun!  Here's the stock photo from AA:

Bunch of slack jawed faggots round here.

You don't know muzzel blast till you fire a round off from a LWRC 6.8mm, 8.5 inch barrel, with a Surefire brake on it.

Holly hell.

It's too lound, and blasty, to use under a roof, even with plugs and muffs in.

OK with a can though, but without, unfireable.

I just got back from the indoor range with my 10.5" SBR and I must say that my A2 birdcage was considerably louder than my KX3 pig. I bet it would be even louder if I threw a surefire socom muzzle break on there.

Muzzle blast? What muzzle blast?

It definitely clears out the people in the shooting lanes on either side of us.

The cause...

I had only A2s or Phantom for a LONG time. Just got a Lantac Dragon on a 14.5" a few months back. As the shooter, i don't notice anything, to the side it is noticable.

I have a 10.5" LMT and it sports a YHM 3100 adapter on it , I almost want to be a bad man and get something that makes it
bother people a little more .. but I wont .. for now

One solution would be to get the QD Brake Shroud for shooting unsuppressed.

I wish they made one for Surefire mounts.
