Yes, I understand that there is not a 'right' answer to this question.

Just asking about peoples experience.

A friend has acquired a Remington 721 chambered in .270 Win.   The original bolt has gone missing.  

Did some research for him and did determine that a later 700 will work mechanically, but of course headspace will have to checked and/or adjusted.


For folks that have done this, what have you found?

1)  Headspace was 'tight' and a reamer was required.

2) Headspace was 'loose' and the barrel had to be set back.

3)  Headspace was just right.....
