couldnt pass this up, lightly used for 200 bucks. impulse buy.

mini lathe

i know it is too small for anything really useful, but i couldnt resist.

anything fun i can make with it? just getting into this for fun, to see if a larger one will be a worthwhile addition.

any cool starter projects i can do with it?

Yoke alignment tool. We had to make them at armorer's school and you use them to straighten out our S&W yokes.
You can also make cylinder disassembly tools for Colt revolvers.

Anything that is round.

1911 firing pins, screws, brass working (my last example posted was cutting 30-30 brass to 6.8 SPC).

reloading die stuff, like bushings, bullet seating stems, neck sizing dies.  Make a .22LR derimming die and punch.

The sky is the limit.

For easily worked material, try leaded steel (12L14 - rusts easily, finish required), or for hard stuff, try a 1144 variant that cuts and finishes great called Stressproof.  Stressproof can be used for punches and dies and firing pins, hardens with a torch.

Where did you get this lathe for $200?  Inquiring minds want to know.

I could have used it to make a custom thread protector.

Pick up a copy of the Home Shop Machinist. I have that same lathe sitting on my workbench right now.                Its a good thing you got a smokin' deal on that lathe. Now th fun of collecting tooling begins!

A lot of engineers have hobbies and mini-machining is a popular one.

I know of engineers who make:
Table top Gatling Gun in 22LR.  You can buy plans and some pre-made parts.
Miniature working steam engines.
Clocks.
Precise miniature model guns.  The Thompson SMG is a popular subject.

My buddy and I plumb wore one out. If you saw the thousands of pounds of chips and great stuff that came off it you would be awestruck.

It is not the most accurate but you can do outstandingly accurate work with it if you use the right set ups and adjust the tail stock right.

I have an even smaller Sureline that is wonderful and very accurate. I wish I had a spare 7x12 for my home shop.

Make yourself a range rod with tips for .38/.357, .41, .44, 45, 22 LR.  A range rod is used to check the alignment of each cylinder of a revovler with its bore.

You can make your own Tap o' Cap to make percussion caps.  You'll find plans at Cast Boolits.  Sell them when you're done.
