I put up an ar on armslist and I have a guy asking to trade me a 1956 model 94. I have no idea about these but it seems kinda cool. Is there anything to watch out for? is it worth anything? school me! Thanks!

1956 model so quality is fine. I'd think the main drawback will be the lack of selection of bullet weights. Not to sure I'd trade an AR for one though.

You can always get another ar.

You should be a handloader and it should be in mint condition.  Because it's only real value is to a collector.
If you want a real shooter buy a 1956 model 94 in 30-30.

We got one from my wife's father.  She shot her first deer with it, put it down in one shot to the neck.  I'm trying SO hard to consolidate calibers but I'm getting all these awesome family guns that I can't turn away.  32 Win Special seems to have a near cult following in some places.  Our 94 is an early 60s model and is a great shooter.  I don't know that it is ballistically any better than a 30-30 and ammo is more expensive unless you reload, but as a family gun it has proven itself and in your case ARs are darn near a dime a dozen now so from my perspective I'd say it's a good trade but I'm a big lever gun fan.

During my research into 1894's (I've got three now), more than a few people said that they shoot .30-30 out of their .32 WS rifles in order to fireform their brass. I've never done it, but it's something to further research and consider. For reference, I just bought a 1941 Winchester 94 carbine in decent condition for $455 and a 1898 Winchester 1894 rifle in decent condition (save for the drilled receiver) for $398. So it would all depend on what you have in the AR or if he's willing to add cash if you have a bit in the AR.

The point being that people were concerned that you're regulated to limited ammo or reloading only with the .32 WS as compared to the .30-30. When hypothetically, you can utilize more common .30-30 in the .32 WS (emphasis on hypothetically).

This would be an awesome 32 SPL bullet. Hornady FTX

Various 170 cast bullets would be fun too.

AR's can be called, pretty common. Not difficult to acquire. They aren't making any more Pre 64 model 94's. I've got a 1956 model 94 in .30-30. Make the trade.
