Apologies in advance for the nearly complete lack of information...

I have never had a lever gun and don't know much about them at all, but the thought pops into my head from time to time to get one.

So, talking with an acquaintance today the topic of guns comes up and he says he has two lever guns that have been kicking around in his safe for awhile and he would like to sell them.  I was a bit distracted, but went to take a look.  Both are Marlin guns.

The first appears to be pretty new, is chambered in 44 mag and has a scope on it.  It has a button cross bolt type safety.  Full length tube magazine.

The second appears older (though he told me it wasn't really old), is chambered in 30-30.  No scope.  Has a half-cock safety.  Full length tube magazine.  Some freckling on the receiver.  A small scratch on the barrel.

One was marked "336", and from pictures online the other looked like a model 1894.  I can't remember now which was which.

He wants $350 for the first one, $325 for the second, or $625 for the pair.

Any thoughts on price?  Anything to look for when evaluating these?

Buy both, sounds like under going price just for the .44.

This!

The 44M runs about $600-$650, without a scope....

I would for sure get the .44 but both sound like a pretty good deal.

Turns out I was too slow on the draw.  He sold the .44.

I still picked up the 30-30 for $275.

ETA: it is a 1966 model 336.

That sucks, I found out long ago that you have to move on a good deal or someone else will beat you to it.  Sounds like you did okay on the 30-30 though, I'm guessing it has the pistol stock?

Still a great gun.

It seems like a handy little gun.  Can't wait for the snow to stop so I can try it out.

Not sure about the stock.  I wouldn't characterize it as being like a pistol grip.  It is pretty similar to that of several of my other rifles.
