Have the opportunity to pick up the title rifle.  It is a 26" full octagon rifle with full length mag tube.  It seems to be in very good shape...nearly new even.  The wood grain is pretty nice, though not "fancy".  No box or papers.  The serial number is ESxxxx.  Price is about $900 plus tax, which appears to be a couple hundred under market value.

What thoughts do you guys have?  It would just be for range work.  I don't do CAS anymore and I don't hunt.  I have several different lever guns but currently no 45/70.  My understanding is that the Miroku guns are great quality and fit/finish.  The added tang safety and rebound hammer don't have many friends.

I have a Browning/Miroku 1886 saddle ring carbine. Very nice but I've retired it since Browning ones aren't made anymore, and have gone with a Marlin 1895 GSBL for regular use.

The rifle-length 1886 model is a bit heavy, but that may tame the recoil of the 45/70 a bit.

I had couple of the Browning/Miroku guns in the past (1895 and 1886 SRC) and enjoyed them both.  Very good quality and never an issue.

Yeah, it was a heavy rifle for sure.  I passed on it, BTW.

At the same place last night I put a Pedersoli Sharps on lay away instead.

I have a Winchester/Miroku 1885 and it is an exceptionally well built rifle.

Browning 86 src with an original lyman tang sight is the bomb.

Have one exactly as you described.

Love it.  Used it to take two hogs within about 3 seconds of each other while hunting in TX.  Great rifle!
