I want a peep sight for my 1894 but, I do not want a tang sight. What are my option ? This is a recently t manufactured rifle.

I have a Williams Foolproof on mine, but I am considering changing it out and installing the Skinner sight. I have the Skinner sight on a couple of 10/22's and a Winchester 9422 and I like it. It certainly seems tougher than the aluminum Williams sight. The only downside is the limited adjustability. You would probably have to dial in the front sight as a part of getting it sighted and not plan on changing the sight setting.

Skinners are great - you may or may not need to change the front sight as well with them, as the poster above stated. I had one on mine until I couldn't use it anymore due to my eyes and it did not need a new front sight.

Best combination is Skinner Express rear sight with XS "white stripe" front.
Looks great, works great.

I use Williams peeps on all my marlins. Thing with the FPs on the 1894 is that (unless they have changed), the peep hangs off the rear. It didn't effect function but it simply bugged me. None of the others hung off so I ended up drilling a third mounting hole exactly 1/2 inch forward of the second. I used the same tap size as the original two and ordered a few Marlin plug screws in stainless from Numrich to match the originals if I ever take it off. I was very cautious about drilling too deep and entering the chamber. I also added the firesight front sight so while getting the screws I got a a front sight hood in stainless for a 983S. I have the 983S and the hood has a cut out on top. I wanted that for the firesight though I normally pop the hoods off when firing. Thing about all marlin hoods is they are always lopsided, which bugs me. Winchesters are always perfectly round.

Anyway the center is a Marlin 1894SS. I've others but top down is a 1895 in 45/70, 336C 30-30, 1894SS in 44mag/44spec, Rossi Puma in357/38 special and a Marlin Golden 39A in 22. All the Marlins are JM, bullseyed and have Williams peeps. The Rossi has a Marbles tang.

I also have all the low light apertures but I usually use the smallest.

another vote for Skinners. I've had them on three different rifles and never had to change the front sight in order to zero, maybe I got lucky.

this is not exactly traditional, but, I REALLY love the new rail set ups they sell for the marlins now. it attaches to the rear screws, and the dovetail for the rear sight. you get a built in peep sight, and the ability to mount any kind of optic you want onto it. not cheap though, IIRC they are around $150.00. but you get peep sights, and rail for optics.

I have the Skinner Express rear and brass front on my Henry Frontier H001T with a custom brass receiver cover.  Looks really nice and is a very nice sight.

I have a 1894 Marlin in .44 magnum and a 336 in .35 Remington, one of them is getting Skinner sights this winter.

I'm wanting to setup my 1895 with target sights as I won't be using for any hunting. I'm leaning towards a Williams FP target and a Lyman 20MJT front globe. If I was going to use it for hunting I think I'd go with the skinner.

I bought XS sights for my 1985 45/70, and I hated them so much after the first range trip I scoped my rifle, they suck.

I left the front sight on the rifle but the rear sight I put in my spares box.
