This at the local gunshop. Honestly, looks unfired by looks and smell. Blue finish is nice and shiny. Price: $339.

Is that too much? Just right? Or good low price?

I'd say pretty good, but not the best. If it is pre-safety even better.

I think it's a real good price on a JM gun. They just keep going up.

Thats just the tag price.... I'm sure I can hagle a few buck downno problem. It does have a crossbolt safety.

Good to see you haven't changed your mind........

OP- even with the safety it's a good price, especially in the shape you describe. If you can get them down a little, even better.

did you buy the gun OP? I bought an unfired '86 336 off GB last year for $450 shipped, it was more than I wanted to pay but I thought in the long run it was a better buy than spending close to $400 for one that wasn't pristine. I know a lot of guys talk about buying $250-$300 336's, but I haven't seen one for those prices for years.

I am convinced that it is at a good price but I just could get myself to spend more money...... I know I am going to regret it down the road.

Sounds like a real good price for a JM stamped Marlin rifle. They have been going up in price. Not making then JM stamped any longer .

JMHO any JM Marlin in the condition you describe and under $400 is FO material. In fact, its get your butt back down there quick before someone picks it up material.

I picked a real nice '83 vintage 336 a couple years back for $300 OTD at a "tactical style" gunshop. They took it in on trade and you could tell it wasn't something they normally stock. That's the kind of deal you like to stumble upon.

I have a 69 and 70 my Dad gave me. First one he gave me, second one he told me to sell. I have had more than one opportuniy to sell one to friends, but just cant do it. I could never decide which one to sell.  Reading this thread just made me feel good about hanging on to them both.

I would get it at that price.  The only good deal I ever got at Gander Mountain, found a Marlin 336 on their used rack back before Remington bought them out.  30/30 with the nice Walnut stock.  Only one small nick in the wood.  Got her for $199.  That was about 10 years ago.
