Not a .30-30; a 16" in .357 magnum:

Thinking about changing out the red dot to a smaller one. Have a couple bushnell first-strikes laying around unused, but haven't bothered with it yet. I love the little gun as-is, but a smaller dot might be a little more proportionate and less ugly.

The barrel threading was the only complicated part since the magazine tube originally came out flush to the end of the barrel, and had to be shortened a half-inch or so. IIRC, the gunsmith charged me $130 or so for the work. It looks like the threaded area angles upward, but that's just a quirk of the picture - they're in line with the bore - never had a baffle strike with it:

With thread protector in place:

Nice thing about a short carbine like this, is that even with the suppressor attached, it's still only the same size as a standard 10-22. (This was before installing the scout mount):

Just finishing this one up. Cut to 16" and threaded 5/8x24.

More info please. I have a JM 336 BL and talked to Grizzley Customs and was told the barrel wasn't thick enough for 5/8x24. I have two Surefire 762 SOCOMs RC and Mini. My plans were to have it cut to 14 ish" and then pinned and weld the flash hider to 16" LOA. So my second option is to have the barrel removed and sent to another smith that can thread it metric 14x1 lefthand then send it back to Grizzley for reassembley and rest of conversion.

Is your barrel thicker than the 336 BL?

It is a JM stamped 336W that looked like it had lived the better part of it's life behind the seat of a truck when I got it.  I sent it to Dobbs Defense in Dallas Georgia.  They are an 07/02 manufacture and my goto shop for all of my little projects.  As far as I know the only difference between a 336W and a regular 336 is cheaper wood, but I could be wrong.

They cut the barrel to 16" and shortened the magazine tube.  Initially they thought they were going to have to thread it 1/2x28 and I would use an adapter when using my 7.62 can, but once they got the barrel cut they saw that there was enough meat to thread 5/8x24.

Give them a shout, I know they could hook you up.  They have done some amazing work for me in the past year.

I have a 336 IN 357 at ranger point precision.  It is getting chopped down to 16".  They were recommended on the Marlin owners forum.  I can not vouch for their work yet.  So far only issue is they don't work on class III, so it is not going below 16".  I have not seen the invoice yet - but it will be quite a bit more than $130...  I think their base is 325 to cut down the barrel, the ammo tube, recrown, and reinstall front sight - with plenty of extra services to push that up.

Well what are your impressions of the suppressed 30/30? Is that the cyclone or SDN6?

Cyclone.  I haven't shot it yet.  It balances well though.  Everything goes right I will be taking a deer with it next hunting season.  For now I am still using my 300 BLK SBR with can (the optic on my BLK is headed to the Marlin as soon as hunting season is over.)

In for answers.  My short list of rifles has a 336GBL and SBR 77/357 sharing a Liberty Mystic-X once I get back on my feet.

Are you saying the MysticX can handle the 336 also?

From Liberty's website.  This is a HUGE reason why I want a Mystic-X.  I can shoot .357, 223, 9mm, 30-30, and a ton of other rounds through the same can.  Might not be the best suppression, but for a first can I think it would work great for me.  I have a dirty idea to do a 77/357 10.5" SBR after seeing another member's rifle like that.  Ron Williams still makes .357 AR uppers as well. Just have to message him.  When I have the funds, I'm getting one.

Question is if the 336 can have enough room for threads.  I imagine it is possible since other guys have threaded theirs 5/8x24 after all.

Nice looking rifles.  I do not have a 30-30 but went with a 35 Rem Marlin 336 and have a Coastal Rifle suppressor that fits it. I put a set of synthetic furniture on it and used some Brownells CERAKOTE on it.

Current scope setuo 1-4 Millett DMS-1 Illuminated circle dot

With the can on it

Shoots great and doesn't mind getting wet.
