You can get some good deals on vortex scopes. I really like their products and the have a great reputation.

I have heard that a lot of people like the Simmons Whitetail Hunter from Midway for this purpose. Never use one personally so don't really know. Might look out of place on an SKS but should mount just fine to a bolt action.
Edit: Derp, saw you said 30/30 and not 30-06, Whitetail hunter may be too big for your purposes. I would look for a fixed 4x for the SKS or 30/30 |

I usually hunt in thick brush so I'm using a Redfield 2x7x33 and its perfect for a 30-30.

Go with Bushnell or Tasco they have pretty clear glass, if not go with the Burris Fullfield.

Weaver 1-3X is another possibility. I don't know what he wants to spend but there come a point where if you aren't willing to spend a minimal amount then I got nothin'!

Nikon or Redfield are pretty good for the price point.
Vortex might be a little bit more expensive but great glass. |
