Something strange happened here, I posted this question a few days ago and the post dissappeared??
Anyway, Mr TSG, I want to order an AMSEC safe with either a S&G 8400 or 8500 lock.  Will AMSCE do this?  Is one more secure than the other?  What are the advantages and disadvantages of each/  Thanks

You may have better luck getting him to respond if you post it in his 70+ page thread. He tends to respond quicker there than with standalone threads.

I believe the 8500 is a slightly more modern design and has more current "certifications" around the world. Fron and end user standpoint, the primary difference is with how the lever drops into the drive cam. With the 8400 after dialing in the combo you put it on "0" and then turn an arrow in the center of the knob.

With the 8500 you put it on "0" and press the center of the dial in. This then drops the lever into the drive cam (assuming you have all the gates in the right place by dialing the correct combo).

I believe that the 8400 is still sold because there were so many of them sold and still out there...especially in government.
