I am looking for a .308 bolt action for an occasional (once every three years) deer hunt and what passes for long range target shooting in Illinois. Realistically, we'll be shooting steel at 100-350 yards from a truck bed or picnic table. The SSG 3000 is likely going to be more accurate than I'll ever be so I'm not too concerned with the shortcomings I have heard on other boards.  The ease of just dropping another $1k on good glass that is realistic for my range and purchase has a nice allure.

Anything glaringly bad that I'm missing? I know the stock isn't as nice as it used to be, but that price can't be beat.

I would jump on a SSG 3000 for a grand in a minute, I've seen excellent reviews on Sniper Central, Shot Guns news just did a review too, thing was shooting like .538 groups.

I would buy that gun fast for that price.

Just put some good glass on it or you've wasted the all the money.

about the only "short coming" I see is that it only has a 5 round magazine.  I've gotten over that.  put a Steiner 5x25x56 on it.  1/2" groups with both FGMM 168 and 175 gr at 100 yards.

Walmart has them for  $950.00
