Finally put some optics on it and took it out to the range. Wanted an ACOG but couldn't amass the funds so I settled on a Burris 3x and it rocks.

A couple of modifications to my SAN Swiss Arms Carbine.

- www.gunfactory.ch low mount rail

What these mods allow me to do is co-witness the Aimpoint T1/H1 red dot sight.  I love this set up!

I also picked up a Wenger SIG550 tool.
http://members.shaw.ca/mikjk/Firearms/Rifles/Wenger%20Swiss%20Arms%20Tool%2004.jpg

It has:
- tweezer
- toothpick
- blade
- file
- sight adjustment tool (bladed adjustment tool on body of tool and folding turret adjustment tool)
- bottle opener / screw driver
- spike
- and of course, a cork screw!

agreed ...so what was the reason that places like Canada can still get a beautiful sig 551 style gun and we get a  hybrid Frankenstein?
It's why I never bought one

The BATF decided long ago that semiauto rifles that feed from detachable magazines of military type with the evil features of folding/collapsing stocks, pistol grips, flash hiders, etc. are not suitable for sporting purposes and therefore ineligible for importation. Doesn't explain why SIG in the US couldn't just import the major components of the 550 and then make the necessary amount of parts in US to make it a Domestic manufacture rifle instead of redesigning it.

All in all the Classic series is close enough for me. The ability to use AR mags is an improvement to me, and standard 1/2x28 threads on the barrel is ok with me, but the cheap ass furniture they went with was a joke. At least when they came out with the classic series they made it able to accept 550 stocks and that was close enough for me. Would have been nice if they did the 556 Classic with Swiss stock and original SIG diopter sights on the receiver with rail in front of it from the get go. That would have been a bigger hit I think.

TNP357, you inspired me to go with a 1-4x. I am worse than my wife when it comes to accessorizing!    I finally landed on the Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x. It gives me the FOV of my Aimpoint with some magnification if needed.

Brillant IMHO!
I have an Aimpoint ML3 mounted on the very low aimpoint ring mounted on the same excellent GunFactory.ch rail.

The beauty of this set up is that:
- you can switch from one sighting system to another instantaneously depending by the engaging distance (ie red dot up to 100 m, iron sights above),
- no need of a BUIS,
- in case the battery goes down or the red dot fails, you can keep on shooting,
- providing that your iron sights are correctly zeroed, then you can accurately zero the red dot at the same distance just aligning it to the irons.

INVIDIA MODE ON for your pocket knife. I can 't live without that!

After multiple trips to the range this rifle is rock solid and my new patrol rifle.  It is a Sig factory SBR (556405) with a Surefire scout light.  Eventually there will be an Aimpoint mounted on her but for now the diopter sights that everyone complains about work well for me.  Very nice groups at 100 yards and in.
